I upgraded my Windows 11 from an old 21H2 version to 23H2, avoiding 24H2 for many reasons. The 23H2 came with a slightly new File Explorer. Now, when I do a "Save As" from Photoshop (26.6.1) I get a new dialog box. I don't like it and want the old dialog back.

Does your Photoshop "Save As" look like this? Anybody know how to fix it? I don't see any obvious suspects in preferences. I'm not sure whether this happened because of my Windows upgrade or the recent Photoshop upgrade.

Click on the images (G:) and then click the folders in the path. Fixed.

If you do ot like there are ways to get around it. I have my preferences set like this:

Thanks, Kai.

I finally realized that all that junk at the top (Home, Gallery, Desktop, etc.) was part of "Quick Access". Even though the label "Quick Access" no longer appears. I thought I had killed that, but apparently not. I killed it again and all that junk was gone.

But I still can't get the rest to "automatically expand". Even though I've got auto expand ticked on in Explorer folder options. Turns out the old Ctrl-Shift-E command works in the save as dialog. It expands to the folder the file being saved originally came from. But I'd like to avoid that extra step, like the old days.

Ah Ha! When plain old Google fails you, try ChatGPT.

The "Expand to current folder" functionality in File Explorer, particularly in Save As dialogs, is experiencing a bug in Windows 11 versions 22H2, 23H2, and 24H2. It seems to be a widespread issue, and Microsoft hasn't officially acknowledged it yet.

Workarounds:

Show all folders:
Some users have found that enabling the "Show all folders" option in File Explorer allows the "Expand to current folder" command to work again, albeit with a cluttered folder tree.

Clear File Explorer cache:
Deleting the contents of the AutomaticDestinations folder (located in %APPDATA%\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Recent\\AutomaticDestinations) can sometimes resolve the issue.

Sadly, none of the workarounds worked for me.

Yes, ChatGPT is the best technical support these days. No waiting on hold to talk to someone who often cannot help you. I find ChatGPT gives real solutions most times on the first try. In not, I keep asking more specific questions and get to a solution.
