My main issue with the Zf is accidentally changed settings

I have the Zf for a few months now and recently came back from my first holiday with it which was the first occasion where I used it extensively.

While I am really in love with the styling of the camera and have no problems with the ergonomics (I use the Smallrig Grip with it) I seriously struggle with accidentally changed settings due to pulling out the camera of my sling bag or putting it back in.

It is beyond me why Nikon decided to lock the ISO dial only in the C position while even the Z fc locks it in every position so that you have to press the button in the middle to change the setting. This makes much more sense to me as the ISO dial is the one that I accidentally change most often. Second most is the PASM selector.

Anybody having similar problems or a solution to this issue? I am seriously considering the Z6 III just because of this since it has cost me some potentially good photos because the settings changed between two shots without me noticing it.

My biggest issue is accidentally hitting the i button

Roger that.

I BBF, and am constantly hitting the “i” button rather than AE-L/AF-L.

As for ISO, I leave it at 100 to set my minimum, and always use auto-ISO. That said, I probably have nudged it a few times but it’s not been a big deal.

Is your bag a little tight for the Zf?

The complaints about locking the ISO dial on the Zfc for every setting is probably why Nikon changed this for the Zf. They can’t please everyone.

I have Zfc and I only have issues with bumping the PASM lever and yes, that needs a lock on it. Haven't had any problems with the dials.

I have a similar and worse problem with my two bodies: Zf, and Z30.

I just forget to turn them off before placing each in the bag.
It happens usually while shooting and switching bodies.

The only solution so far is:
Twice check that I have turned them off >>when they are already in the bag.

It seems that in most cases ... the settings garbage is done pulling out the body.

I store cameras with a zoom mounted on them, one is a 70-300E
Handling those kits in a tight spot can be more than difficult when you are in a hurry.

I've already twice changed and garbled settings inside the Menu.

I lost 30 minutes recovering correct settings using my failing memory

( I was so happy to exercise my brain )

I haven't run into this too much but it may just come down to how I put the camera in my sling. I just got in the habit of checking the camera settings before I start shooting, and especially with the Zf since it's more prone to accidental changes of the dials. So I do run into this, but haven't had it ruin any photos really as a result since I do my check when taking it out of the bag each time. I'm also shooting in full manual mode shooting it like a film camera most times anyway so this is why I started to develop the habit as well.

I'll second that one. I frequently find my camera in the wrong mode. It is a dial that I very seldom ever change, so tempted to use some tape or something on my Zfc.
