After much research I recently purchased the Sony MVC-CD300 digital camera, and its features and performance far exceed all my expectations. However, I did run into a problem that Sony doesn’t seem able to fully resolve. Here are the details. There are three variables in the equation: a Panasonic PV-DV600-K camcorder, a Sony Mavica FD88 digital camera (storage medium is 3 ½ inch floppies) and the CD300. I took some stills with the camcorder, saved them to my hard disk as JPEGs, and copied them (drag & drop) to the CD300's mini CD (respecting the directory structure and file naming conventions). Everything worked fine, and the pictures look pretty good on a 36 inch TV. I did the same thing with the FD88, but when I tried to read the files in the CD300 I received a “FILE ERROR” message. Sony’s solution is to open the original file (from the floppy) in Windows Explorer, and then “save as” to the mini CD in JPEG format. This now works fine. The exception is when a picture must be turned 90 degrees, which means opening it in some type of software (I use Photoshop Elements). When I save it to the mini CD after rotation, I am back to the “FILE ERROR” message. I understand the reasons for the problem, as having to do with how the file compression is handled. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do the rotation and get the CD300 to still be able to read the files?
