Multiple doom and gloom threads based on the proposed demise of Olympus simply because another company has bought the Camera division assets from Olympus Inc will have a low level of tolerance from a moderation point of view. Don’t be surprised to see some (many) of them disappear.
This borders on product brand assassination. Reasonable debate in free speech should be allowed but don’t expect moderators to trawl through threads to try and sort out the nuggets from the dross.
The facts are someone has bought the camera division assets - there is every reasonable expectation that when someone buys assets of a functioning company that they intend to continue using them in future in one form or another.
Not quite the same as Olympus announcing that they were simply exiting the camera making industry and shutting down production for a huge fire sale.
We have no idea what the new owners might do with the assets but for the time being we have to believe that Olympus camera products will continue and even possibly with the injection of more capital than Olympus could ever manage to raise may even go on to even better things.
Obviously there may be some rationalisation necessary but so far the report of (Olympus) death was an exaggeration (apologies to Mark Twain).
Furthermore Panasonic is not about to lay its camera division down to die simply because Olympus has sold off its camera division.
