maybe this was posted two months ago already :-)

I am watching the E-3 price very carefully. I may have to get one instead of the E-30. As much as I want to stop thinking about it, I can't get past the fact of the weather sealing... I want to see more E-30 shots, but if the first shots linked are indicative of the overall quality, I may skip the E-30 entirely.

And learn to make do with the E-3's interface.. after all I would use it mostly for weddings. Pitty the live view. The E-30's live view will be better.

Ah, I guess it's too early too tell. It will be hard to ignore when the E-3 hits $1,000 USD which should be probably within two months.

I guess reading that review reminded me just how good the E-3 is built overall other than my issues with it.

Blah.

I didn't like the ergonomics.

Why would I consider one again?
  • Weddings (doing two now next year)
  • I still want a "no excuses" outside camera
  • I really liked everything about the E-3 pretty much except the ergonomics. I parted with it but it wasn't that easy.
If the E-30 had weather sealing, I wouldn't be thinking about all this.

I still want to see more of what the E-30 can really do though.
Didn't you own an E-3 at one point, only to get rid of it?
Update: I would definitively keep using my E-420 probably as my main camera.

I was not happy with the E3 control system when I first got it, but while I certainly don't love it now, it's not a problem at all. In fact I never think about it, just get on with using the camera.

Perhaps it's partly a question of telling yourself nothing in this life is perfect, work round negatives and don't worry about them.

Sometimes problems are so severe you just can't do this, but I don't think the E3 interface is one of these.

but after 5 months I gave up. But since I would use this for weddings, I would probably set at P-auto and call it a day. Maybe Ill get used to other quirks.

I am just watching at this point the price drop. Once it hits $900/$1000 then I think I am ok with it.

I remember seeing some post where you can find a link to some greek store that allows you to have the E-3 with the 12-60mm and FL-50R for less than €1000. That sounds like a crazy deal. Maybe that's a sign that E-3's price is going to drop soon.

But right now in France, it's still selling around €1400 to €1600, the most expansive cropped sensor DSLR of all brands. I ended up buying a Canon 40D for €700.

but since I have two booked now for next year, and I want to do some, to start earning some cash on the camera side, then yeah.

I lost originally about $400-$500.

On occasion I've found the E3s weather sealing invaluable when doing weddings. It's just one less thing to have to think about when rushing around during events. I had a play with the E-30 when I went over to see Brian at the Photo Safari Exhibition - it's a very nice camera, but for doing events as the main photographer I would go for the build of the E3.

In the Netherlands:
(one of the cheaper places)
Body E-3 around 1600 US
Body + 12-60 around 2500 US
Indeed one of the more(most?) expensive "cropped" sensor cameras around.

E3 is not cropped (by definition)

Most expensive cropped is Nikon D3. dpreview tells its sensor side 23.9 * 36mm. That is cropped.

I know...that's why I wrote copped like I did...."cropped"

the last thing you want to do is worry about things or that. The E-3 just feels like I can drop from an airplane, parachute in and cover it.

The only thing I want to know at this point in an E-3 vs E-30 comparison is:
  • live view shutter lag decrease (once it's focused)
  • banding, banding, BANDING at high iso
  • overall high iso noise (just to make sure it hasn't gone horribly wrong).

Ok...it's not cropped. Can you give me a suggestion on how to describe the class in which the E-3 belongs? Is it semi pro? Is it pro (and therefor to compare with D3)? Maybe I should say..E-3 most expensive in it's class (that would not be true when comparing with the D3).

In fact, I do not care in what class it belongs; for my usage it's the best camera around at the moment.
