Hi,

anyone has a solution for starting Canon EOS Utility 3 under macOS 15 Sequoia?

It crashes and needs force quit and it will not start.

My workflow is normally to connect the cam direct to the Macbook for downloading pictures.

Are y'all having no issue?

Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the tip to not upgrade to Sequoia yet. :)

P.S. Sequoia has all the vowels.

The issue is with Canon who needs to upgrade EOS Utility 3 to work, with the new system, not with Apple..I'm sure they had plenty of notice....

I have v3.18.5 (seems to be the most current) and it launches and connects to the camera fine. I tried with USB cable.

Does it crash on launch or when you do something specific?

Give them some time. Although they may have been developing/testing their apps with Sequoia beta and Gold Master releases, they may want to do some testing with the actual released version—which may be different from pre-release versions. I know of at least one vendor (Capture One) who, as of yesterday, was saying that they’re testing with the released version of Sequoia before they certify the product as working with it.

Frankly, of more concern to me is that DPP, EOS Utility and other Canon software is still using only Intel code (they’re not the only commercial vendor doing this).

Canon has not put much into DPP in the last decade. Last big one was DLO and that is about 10 years. DPP and all my apps are running OK on Sequoia but I don't use Utility.

If it is crashing this may help. I used to have this happen occasionally to me with DPP. It took a while to find it but worked. Perhaps you can try this with the Utility playlist.

Just a note. This has worked with much newer versions of macOS.

I had to upgrade to Sequoia to get Adobe Bridge to not crash and now I'm in the same situation with EOS Utility 3. Have you found a workaround?

I’m also on macOS 15. If you are asking me I don’t use Utility. While trying to download DPP 4.19.30, I mistakenly downloaded Picture style editor. It would not open. DPP is fine.

I know where to submit an Adobe bug but not Canon.

Had the same problem. Since updating to Sequoia, EOS Utilities failed to open and just produced a "app not responding" message.

Solution is to uninstall EOS Utilities, and then reinstall the Ventura version of Utilities (v3.18/41). That worked fine for me.

Alternative solutions include copying and pasting from your CFE-B or SD card, into your Pictures folder/subfolder. Or import direct into Lightroom etc.

According to Canon the app hasn’t been updated for Sequoia. Their representative stated on their forum that he doesn’t know when it will be ready.

I haven't had problems running EOS Utility 3.17 with Sequoia.

That usually suggests for someone having issues to re-install it. Yesterday 15.1.1 was released. For an X.X.1 update it sure took a while.

Same here works fine.

I did have an issue now I think about it. On the R7 I had to select computer and not phone. If phone was selected then EOS Utility would not launch when connecting the camera to computer.

I wondered why the ball kept getting bigger, then it hit me.

I gave up on Canon’s software a long time ago. For my R5, I bought an OWC Thunderbolt CFExpress card reader and it is super-super fast. Yes, you have to buy the thing but copying 128 GB of photos takes seconds with this reader. It needs no driver software; the card just mounts like a disk and you drag and drop the photos from it.

Copying is several times faster if you copy the folder instead of opening the folder and selecting the hundreds of images inside.

I keep it up to date only because I use it for a first cull to get rid of files I won't use. Less importing into LrC. Quick Check - Full Screen mode. The screen sizing algorithms are excellent and it shows as finished processed Jpegs so sharp and contrasty. NR is also applied. Best thing it is free so perfect for a hobby shooter.
