Got fed up waiting for some news so popped across to Clifton Cameras and picked up a k3.

Here is the results with numerous different flashes, The lens fitted is the Tamron 18-250 a lens I would not use for flash on the k5 due to hopeless consistency across the zoom range as well as the 'bounce' issue

in hss for the most part as thats where things break with flash firmware.

The Metz45 digital images are not HSS as I can;t get sync so looks like a new sca module may be needed.

The wide shot with the metz 50 was also underexposed so may be an issue there as well

In general flash consistency is fantastic.

I havn;t labled them all as they have posted in a different order to taken so not sure which flash was which :)

flashes use here

Metz ms15-1

Metz 50

Metz 45 Digital

Pentax FGZ540

Metz ms15-1 fired off the inbuilt flash

Metz 50 250mm direct

metz 50 dipped 250mm

oop ran out of power - need a bigger flash :)

Metz 50 hss seems to have borked

thanks!

Folks were wondering if the on-board can serve as controller in HSS (whether contributing as sustained fill source or just a matter of triggering the slave). That question probably is yet to be answered.

Sure this was answered once the manuals surfaced.

Anyway there is no HSS from the inbuilt flash but there is full Manual from 1:1 to 1:128 in 8 steps .

Also a massive improvement is you can leave the camera in auto iso and it behaves sensible uping ISO as distance increases not just using the highest available ISO.

Really makes inbody flash a powerful tool rather than the trinket it was.

Thanks for trying this out, this is one of my big asks from Pentax this time around, to fix the flash bounce/exposure inconsistency.

I guess the next thing to try is bouncing with a mirror or large reflective surface in shot. I normally found this confused the metering system completely on my K-30 or K-01

wonder if there will be any changes when Metz releases firmware for K3
I had to update it with the 48-AF1, it was not syncing to rear curtain with the K5 IIs

B*stard you got a balloon with you K3? Can't see what the fuss is all about with Pentax flash system, this is easy. No more insulating tape over chrome surfaces. I guess 86k RGB does give an improvement on 77 sectors.

Wow how fast is your trigger finger? Can't believe you got that much separation from the shutter button in the last shot.

Didn't notice that Wow impressed with myself :)

Suppose it a learnt muscle reaction from thousands of of shoot-swivel-focus-shoot

that is impressive Andrew!

You are supposed to squeeeeeze triggers LOL

Hopefully I do but, release a bit rapid :)

Hadn't thought about but then I've never suffered jerk shots and was a pretty decent marksman in a past life so should be doing all the breather through squeeze without thinking.

Have to keep an eye on it.
