K-7 new firmware 1.10 is just released

Sounds like a worth while update with some things that people have asked for.

I have a gut feeling many will claim Pentax slipped in a fix for the K-7 Shutter Blur problem. I really have NO idea. But I wonder if Falk and his team will test this new firmware to confirm whether or not it has any kind of fix? Unless Pentax already told him its not in there, he...

Those are some nice updates for you K-7 owners ;)

"When Mode dial is set M or X and Electronic Level is set to display, exposure meter is indicated both of them in the LCD panel and in the Viewfinder"

Yay! The level and the meter visible in M mode. About time too!

Based on Falk's analysis of the nature of the issue, there is no real cure without a redesign of the shutter mechanism. But I won't be surprised if Pentax can work out some mitigation based on SR implementation around the 1/100sec shutter speed.

Pentax has a habit of "slipping" in unacknowledged fixes to unacknowledged faults using firmware.

Remember the "Green Line"? Many thought at first that the issue would kill the K-7.

As for me, I've been happily clicking away almost everyday on the K-7. I've hardly noticed the issue at all...

Its good of Pentax to put up a firmware update so late in the product life cycle.
The K-7 gets better and better !

Thanks for the update quaphy!

This is great! I can't wait to get home and try this out. I was just thinking last night that it would be nice to be able to edit the videos in camera, instead of having to use something like VirtualDub after the fact...

I'm interested to see how they'll make the exposure meter and the electronic level work at the same time in the viewfinder in M and X modes. Of course, perhaps they just made the exposure meter override the level. :P

I think the half-press autofocus in live-view will be good, but it might be a lot of mirror flopping if you're not careful (assuming phase-detection mode...perhaps the speed-up mentioned will make contrast AF usable).

No they are both displayed, level in the usual place and exposure meter to the right showing amount over or under exposed.

Hi Pete,

the old problem of the EL not been "level" it's still there though. I remember having discussion on this issue long time ago. Many people experienced similar problem to mine...my shots are level when the EL is kept at three dots to the left.
For this reason I never used the EL since.
Cheers

I just checked and I have it turned on but rarely actually look at it to confirm 'levelness", probably should just turn it off, pretty sure I checked it at some time and it was level though. I probably should use it though as I wear multi focal glasses and do see the world wonky at times.

Version is 1.10.00.25

The auto focus in LV-mode is indeed faster!

I was hoping that the optimizations they made to the AF routines in Live View would also affect non-Live View. It doesn't look that way :(

My K-7 is not "leveled" either (bought June this year). But users here claim that this can be fixed by Pentax service staff: I will send mine in for calibration when summer season is over.

Just logged on. Great stuff!

As I hardly use the video mode, it always took a double take in the brain to use the AF button on the back. Also the spirit level and metering now available together will reduce confusion.
Thanks for the post!!

Service staff as in the people at the shop arround the corner or as paying big bucks and don't see your camera for a week or two?
