The D7 is an ok camera for IR.. however some shots on the G1,G2
are frankely amazing compared to the D7.

The largest issue other than getting good colors is the hot spot in the middle...
My techniques for this photo are as follows..

white balance neutralization with dailbors plugin
auto levels.
8 bit conversion

reopen same photo
same white balance (Perhaps a different white balance would be better here.)
decrease exposure setting
8 bit conversion

Layer photos and mask the hot spot with the darker exposed photo..
sponge destat and burn if needed..

Hi Sacha:

Not much response to your posts on IR. Maybe not many are interested anymore?

I agree that the D-7 might not be the best for IR. That 28mm sure is nice for IR landscapes, etc. though and I can do handheld shooting most of the time.

I like your shot and color scheme. Doesn't appear over manipulated. I use Dalibors plug-in too, using the eyedropper to "white balance" in different areas to judge the effect, usually on something dark, like a tree branch.

Have you tried to make a layer/action using a negative of the central spot taken of a white target, like this?

Just an idea.

Pete

I had thought of that. But there is that loss of detail if you only deal with one exposure. I think maybe doing an IR of a white page is a good idea..

and to use dailbors plugin to figure out the exposure difference and possible the WB difference for a tighter match... and then to use a similar mask..
