It holds photos so I guess that is on topic ;)

Looks good to me. Best thing is...no AT&T contract!

Kinda lost some of it’s perks. I guess it’s good for someone that does not have a cell phone. If you carry a cell phone, why would you not just get the iphone?

Because the iPhone requires you to sign up (for 2 year contract) with AT&T to use their wireless phone service. I already have a cell phone that I am fond of and I have an 8GB iPod Nano to play my music.

The 16GB model is an upgrade to me with the bonus feauture of having Wi-Fi, so i will be able to browse the Net, use Google Maps or browse these forums near any Wi-Fi spot!

I guess if you don’t use your phone for internet on the go or email this would work. To me it seems to be missing half of the function of the iphone. The ipod touch is just a fancy ipod, the iphone is a revolutionary communication device all in one.

I don’t have one yet, waiting for the price drop. I see they slashed the price on the iphone by $200, so it’s getting tempting. I can’t wait to be able to do mobile email and internet on that big screen, by cell phone has a tiny screen.

The iPhone has a small storage space. I love the fact that they've made the iPod Touch, but even at 16G, its a bit small to spend so much on.

I like to use my Ipod as a "Portable CD case", and load up most of my music on there. I have the 30 Gig, and I've filled it up before. Had to remove some video files to free up space.

Still a good (and predictable) move on Apple's part.

I own another music jukebox (iRiver H320) that is pretty old by today's standards. Itching to buy another toy :-) Touch looks great, but i will find very hard to resist 80 GB of Classic for $250. Great value.

The 16GB limit is too little. I have an Archos 604 (only 30GB) from last year that I use to store photos when I travel. But, I find the 30 GB to be too limiting. :( Store some photos and some movies and I run out of space quick. Additionally, most of my video are in divx or xvid which the ipod doesn't support. I know it is easy to convert the file format, but that takes up computer time and it is an extra step that could take many minutes to hours for each video (depending on computer).

If the iPod Touch is 80GB and support more formats, I am in for one. But, otherwise, I was fairly disappointed at the new iPods. The classic's screen is too small, BTW.

Revolutionary communication device? The touch is basically the iphone without the phone. Hardly a revolutionary feature that is missing, just a cell phone, and we all already have one of those that is likely not as big and fat. AT&T data service is by all accounts painful so the itouch sounds like good business to me. Yes the WiFi is good on the iphone, but it is the same feature the itouch has, so why shell out the extra for the phone?!

You have lost internet on the go or email, some of the best parts of the iphone.

Without that it’s just a fancy ipod. WIFI is fine if you are near a hot spot, but how do you get to the internet or check your email if you are not near one?

The iphone lets you check and respond to email, and get on the internet anywhere you get a signal (that is almost everywhere unless you live in the Adirondacks)

I guess we are talking apples and oranges, if you are not a blackberry user (or equivalent) and are thinking about the touch as a new ipod, not a replacement for internet and email communication it will work.

I use my phone to make & receive calls with a great plan. No contract right now.

Yea, it's a fancy iPod, which is what I want. I have an 8GB Nano that I use daily and this 16GB Touch is a definite upgrade with the ability to go online and store photos.......is all i am saying.

To each is own

I agree and it was envitable after the release of the iPhone that Apple would introduce an iPod with this Touch technology.

That is a great value but I've owned two different hard drive iPods in the past and they both had hard drive failure at some point and had to be replaced or thrown out, when out of warranty.

So this is why i switched to the flash drive iPods and i haven't had one problem yet.

Apple specializes in over priced and over rated products. Ipods are no exception.

I bought an Iriver MP3 player three years ago after looking at and dismissing the Ipod. The MAIN reason for not buying an Ipod was Itunes.

I can drag and drop music and photos to my Iriver H320, it handles DRM files, and most relevant for this forum it can be used as an external USB drive. I can off-load files from my D70s to the Iriver.

Try THAT with an Ipod!

All of the screens in my opinion are too small for video. I dont care for that feature. i use the iPod strictly for music. As a DJ and sound engineer, the iPod is the best sounding portable player i have ever heard. I actually use vinyl records, CDs and the iPod to spin music at the club I DJ at :D

I wish the flash drive was larger than 16GB but this is what is available now and the technology is attractive to me (music and wi-fi)

Burras,

The H320 is superior to the current line of Ipods. I'll never buy an Ipod as long as I must use Itunes to load it.

My ONLY regret in buying mine instead of the Ipod is the inability to dock the Iriver the way an Ipod is supported.

I recently replaced the battery in my 3+ year old H320 and it's as good as new. $35 for a higher capacity than original battery and a half hour of my time!
