Epson P400

(I suspect most desktop printers are similar)

i need to work out my production costs and to do that i need to know how many ml of ink (combined carts/colors) the printer uses per square inch or per square foot to print high res images?

The info is unconfirmed but a few snippets i found on the subject estimate 1ml per square foot.
If accurate, then for example, the P400 uses 14ml carts that sell for $24 (Canada) - 14/24 = 0.56 cents per ml
Which would mean a12x12inch print costs 56 c in ink (+ paperand any wastage).
It sound right does it.

Thanks

Thanks, yes I had just seen that link. I have written to ask them how the p400 costs may differ from the p600. Smaller carts = higher per ml cost I think. Plus, as you say there is wastage when new carts charge or you do a head clean. Maybe the real cost is 2x the estimated ml per sq ft cost

Uses the same mechanicals and approx. same size carts as the P400. The P400 is basically a reskinned R2000.

It depends a great deal on what you are printing. Dark images use much more ink than light images.

I think that it is a good idea to keep records yourself of how many prints you make before changing cartridges.

The bold/italic formula above should be $24/14ml for a cost of $1.71 per ml. Not sure how much this will effect your decisions, but triples your initial estimate per 12 inch print.
