How to install maps for HZ35W/WB650 Map view
Several people on the main WB650 maps thread expressed problems getting the map view mode to work. Here is how to install the maps. I believe all the information below is correct. My apologies if I have made any errors; please respond to this post with any corrections.
1. Download the city.zip file from the Samsungimaging site or from other sites the maps and setup files have been uploaded it to (see NOTE 2 below).
2. Download the mapview.zip file.
3. Download the ZIP files for the maps of the geographic areas you want to use.
4. Create a hard drive folder in which you will build the folder structure to copy to your SDHC or SD card. (I call my folder SDCARD and will refer to folder SDCARD below.)
5. Unzip the city.zip file to a folder called City and then move the City folder to the SDCARD folder.
6. Unzip the mapview.zip file to a folder called Mapview. Make sure you instruct your unzip program to preserve the folder structure in the mapview.zip file. It will create subfolders called Res and Maps.
7. Unzip the map ZIP files for your geographic areas to the Maps folder created in the above step.
8. Move the City folder and its contents to the SDCARD root folder.
9. Move the Mapview folder and its contents to the SDCARD root folder.
10. Copy the City and Mapview folders from the SDCARD folder to the root folder of the SD/SDHC card.
11. Verify that you have the correct folder structure on your SD/SDHC card. Once you have completed the above steps, the folder structure on your card should look like this:
=======================================
City
World.adm
Database (created by camera)
DCIM (created by camera)
Mapview
Maps
BASEM00.DAT ... BASEM13.DAT (base map files)
BGMAP.CFG (country configuration file)
.BGF files (for the geographic areas you want to include)
Res
ARIALUNI_ColumbusLB.ttf (font file included in mapview.zip file)
UI.res
system.ini
========================================
12. Insert the card in the camera and switch the mode dial to map view. A map should open up, centered on the capitol city of the country specified in the BGMAP.CFG file.
NOTE 1: If you format your SD/SDHC card, the camera will erase the map files. Copy them from the City and Mapview folders you saved on your hard drive.
NOTE 2: In addition to the Samsung imaging site, the entire library of files is here as a torrent download:
http://www.h33t.com/details.php?id=33b88fa83ba8675cca269be6505a07989530376e
or it can be directly downloaded from here:

NOTE 3: The BGMAP.CFG file contains the startup location for your map view. You can change this location by editing the BGMAP.CFG file and putting your own coordinates there. You can find the coordinates for a particular location here: http://www.gorissen.info/Pierre/maps/googleMapLocationv3.php
After you find the coordinates for your desired "home" location, replace the values in the bgmap.cfg file for CEN_LON and CEN_LAT with the longitude and latitude values you obtain on the website.
NOTE 4: Each country map ZIP file contains its own BGMAP.CFG file and the last one you copy to your SD/SDHC card will become your base/default country
That should do it!
