Although I have my own forum and don't post on DPR these days, I thought I'd share this handy tip with all you nice folks on DPR:

To avoid getting dust on your sensor during those vital few seconds the gizzards are exposed when changing lenses, try stuffing a small orange in the hole. I used to use a potato but found the orange to be far more flexible. If anyone has an even better idea, why not share it?

Merry Christmas to all on DPR..........................

I'm worried the orange might spray juice from its rind if I'm not careful with the pressure applied. How much success have you had with this "technique"?

Thje OP and this funny dirtee1 have never heard about starving people, making fun with expensive cameras and food is just plain sick.

Windmills, just do it.

The suggestion made me think, I am often in the open and hesitant to change lenses, just putting an object (smooth skinned - thus not a hairy kiwi) sounds like a good tip.

Problem with FF sensors might be that you need a bigger piece of fruit, but then you can always use a small plate.

Lionheart,

Holiday wishes and thank you for the suggestion. I tried with a banana, works too, but now I have a streaky mirror.

Honest criticism is hard to take, particularly from a relative, a friend, an acquaintance or a stranger.

If we are so busy worried about what to stick there... what ever happen to the cap that comes with our DSLRs?? that sounds much more appealing to me than sticking soemething that inevitably will rot and/or spray into my camera... i don't know... just my thoughts.

Merry Christmas.

You do not realize that the OP and his trolly friends are not serious at all about photography and changing lenses.
They are out to ruin a quality forum.

I didn't have an orange...so I tried a pomegranite. It did keep the dust out............. but now how do I get rid of the seeds???
And for those of you who took Lion serious.......I have this bridge for sale!

I used to put in my two cents worth frequently, but people were only willing to give me a penny for my thoughts. I kept loosing that other penny.

You must've read that report indicating that Windmills are the major source of dust getting into DSLR's in the Netherlands.

In the spirit of Occam’s Razor one should embrace the less complicated formulation or simply put, less is more.

Hi Lionheart,

It’s great to hear from you. I’ve found stuffing the hole with another lens much more effective.

While a new lens works, totally encapsulating your camera and lens in epoxy appears to prevent further dust build up.

Happy Holidays,

Morris

Reading your stupid remarks reminds me of a saying over here: he must have been hit by a windmill.

I think to tell him 'to stuff his hole' is really bad taste.

My my, must've set your wooden slippers ablaze. You're so sensitive, I guess the gals must love you.
