How many folks out there still enjoy their CP950?

David
Yes David I still have my CP950 and to be honest I would not change it at the moment.

If and when the time comes I will almost for certain be moving into digital SLR mode as I also use a Nikon F4 and have a lot of optics for that, I think that would be the better move rather then move up on the coolpix range.
Nice to hear that someone else is still using the 950.

David I just got 950 on Friday(Yippee),Ive taken about 40 pictures and am amazed at the quality of photos this 2mp could produce.I was always a traditionalist and snubed my nose at digital technolgy and figure it will not match the film quality, but Im a true convert.I've read every possible review and ask all my digital users friends about the Coolpics 9 series lines and all had nothing but praise about these units.I enjoy this camera and its ablility to be functional with quality photos,I've got a couple of questions though, when the camera is focusing should it make a slight "grinding" noise.I know its the auto focus but should it be making that sound?,second would the 950 users recommended the TC E2 for telephoto shots or is there another lenses you might recommond, over all Im very please with the camera and would definitely give this camera two BIG thumbs up,it may not have the highest pixels on the market but the macro shots this camera takes are second to none..

Hi Daytona,

When you hear the "grinding" noise, you should see the green light bulb is on, right? Yes, that's normal.

I've both the EW-24 and E2 lens, both are very well made and the image quality will beat any other after-market lens. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Yes David I see the green light,I know its the auto focus just wondering if it was suppose to make that "noise".David on Ebay they are selling the TC e2 for about $110us,is that a good price?.My main usage for the 950 are macros and static pictures(plants, horizons, buildings, etc),is the e2 or the e3 better for my perference of photos.I've read other people reviews and it seems they like the e2 better than the e3,whats your opinion ?.

Hi Daytona,

You should check with a few e-shop for current pricing because my E2 is not bought from the US so I'm not sure the MSRP in US dollars.

I haven't try the E3 yet but I don't think you could use the E3 without a tripod (due to the max shutter speed of 950).

If you need more information on taking macro shot using 950 + E2 simply goto http://www.steves-digicams.com read the 900/950 review. There's lots of good macro examples on this site without any optional lens (that's why people call it "Macro King" right?

Hope it helps ^ ^

Yep, still have mine and using it with glee. I've taken around 5,200 pics and the pictures still amaze me. After all, it gave me first place in Steve's picture of the month contest.

I didn't get caught up in the upgrade to 990 and 995. I'm holding out on their future 4/5 MP cameras, SLR or not.

If you set the camera for Single AF then the chortling you hear will only happen with each half-press of the shutter. It's that auto focus, all right. In Continuous AF, the clucking and chuckling goes on all the time. Don't worry, it doesn't eat much power. Single AF tends to prevent far objects from stealing focus away from closer objects. Continuous tends to lock on whatever it finds first.

The TC-E2 is my first choice in tele. Sure, the TC-E3 is longer, but you get more zoom inside the E2 and it covers a continuous range. The WC-E24 is my first choice and most-used converter lens and although my WC-E63 has less barrel distortion, both of them need to be run through my iNovaFX [email protected] or [email protected] filters before they can be truly rectilinear for straight-line work. The '24 is half the carry hassle and even fits unnoticed in my pocket. Any pocket.

Enjoying the heck out of it, but I must say it was not complete till I got Peter's ebook. I too have the e28 and am impressed with it's quality, now I just need a b300 and move to hawaii to get the shots that Frances gets :)

I'm still having fun with mine. And, I too, am impressed most with the macro feature. This camera does very well with that. To repeat a question I had a week ago, are any of you using a Viking 128Mb card? Any issues with it? I have found none.

Heading to Alaska tomorrow. We'll see how it holds up in the cold. Better than me I'm sure.

Still have mine...LOVE IT. The ONLY drawback is that I'd really like to have some of my photos blown up and the 1600x1200 would probably look pixelated at anything above 8x10. I haven't tried yet...so I'm not sure. But other than that...WONDERFUL camera. I still haven't bought any other lenses....and now I hesitate...buy lenses or save for new camera....hmm....

As for the infrared shots....were those taken with the modified glass inside the coolpix? I read on how to do that, but looked "frankensteinish" hahaha Nice looking pic!!!!

Hi!

One here. I still like my 950. I tried a friend's 990 and found that some pics have a little magenta cast sometimes, or some colour shift compared to my 950. And the 995 is still not too big an improvement for me, so I've stayed with the 950. Waiting for the next Coolpix or D-SLR.

Regards

I still have my 950 and in researching infrared photography found that it is preferred to the 990/995 for infrared photography due to the 950's lack of IR cut filters over the CCD. 990/995 will still work for IR, but the 950 is mobetter.
Still waiting for my IR filter from Harrison&Harrison.

I just found a post on a macro lense 2X for the Nikon 9XX coolpix. Raynox MSN-500 for $100.

The 950 has a larger pixel size than the 990 -995 and thus is less subject to fringing and chromatic aberation. I'm waiting to upgrade to a 5megpixel until the pixel size at least matches the 950 in a consumer or prosumer brand. I'm mighty tempted by the Minolta D7 though.
