How can a pic be shrunk after downloading from camera to pc without using an outside source ie photobucket etc. Can a pic thats taken at full size be shrunk down to under 100 kb and keep fairly good quality? Just using Zoombrowser, XP, etc.. Then saved for futre use. Thanks Brad

Hi Brad:

I'm not sure if you meant reduced in size on pixel dimensions..i.e. to 800 x 600, or compression of the full size image to a smaller file size?
In either case, you'll need another application as the others have stated.

The Zoombrowser software that's bundled with the camera will let you crop and remove redeye, but it doesn't have a resize function.

Keep in mind that to get a file under 100 kb will require a lot of jpeg compression, even if the image size is reduced to 800 x 600, resulting in jpeg artifacts, and you may not be happy with the results. When you get whatever application you chose, just play around with the compression settings, you usually get a fairly wide choice, and pick a setting that gives you acceptable quality for your needs.

Brad, sorry to tell u, but u CAN resize with ZB,just export the pics, and u can change the size of it, but i prefer to use faststone since it will also sign my pic while i resize, like this ...

Hi Brad,

A picture can be shrunk both in pixel size and file size. You can use Irfanview, a free viewer for that, as another poster said.

Be aware that when shrinking either way, you will lose quality, so they might look great on screen but not printed.

Regards,

Nugar

irfanview is being developped at an austrian university ( http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/ ) by a bosnian guy named irfan... its free!

alternatives would be photoshop (or photoshop elements - pse 3.0 BTW is excellent! its $99 for pc and 10 $ less for mac).

the easiest way - as usual of course - is to get an apple computer. OSX includes the application "image capture" which lets you automate download procedures (i.e. you can tell image capture to download all/a certain number of pics and whilst downloading them image capture will resize them according to your settings and afterwards delete them from the memory card of your camera if you wish so). the excellent shareware application graphic converter ( http://www.lemkesoft.de/en/graphcon.htm - only mac, appr. 50 USD) lets you perform batch conversions easily whilst importing 175 graphic formats and exporting 75 formats and offering one of the best picture managing and slide show options.

by the way: the full version of photoshop costs $649, the mac mini starts at $499...

You can download a powertoy from microsoft for windowsxp that allows you to right click on one (or many) image(s) and resize them. The default it to make a copy, but you can deselect it and resize the original. I find this very helpful when doing and entire batch. Hope this helps...

1. Right click the image and choose “Send Images by Email”
2. Choose the size and quality and hit “apply”
3. Experiment and repeat step 2 if necessary until the image is under 50K

4. From the “Send or Save” tab choose save folder where you want to save your resized image

Ok I have downloaded this, but there are no icons or anyway of prompting it for use, am I missing something? The download is done but when I pull a pic I don't see anyway of manipulating it with the powertoy.

Once you downloaded and installed the exe, that's all you had to do. You don't have to open the picture to resize it. From a windows folder window you can just right click on one or more images (files) and see the new option to resize them. Click "resize pictures" and you will get their little interface with a couple of options to select from.
