I am a beginner photographer and I would like to take pictures for my website similar to the pictures by GANNI and was wondering what lighting and camera and extra equipment you would need to take those type of pictures. I attached the pictures I’m referring to

These can be recreated with a smartphone.

But you do need a long seamless background that comes down and curves onto the floor for the model to stand on. You notice there is no line in the background where the horizontal surface meets the vertical. So, yes, you do need some special equipment.

This photo is somewhat special in that it is not typical to see the front edge of the backdrop in the foreground.

Practice, practice, practice practice! ;-)

And you need an understanding of lighting methods that can achieve that particular result. Could be accomplished by shooting outdoors in open shade, or indoors with huge windows, or with artificial continuous light, or with flash. In the latter cases you would also need diffusers and light stands.

Notice how there is no shadow at all on the backdrop, and a perfectly plain background.

So you need a curved backdrop that covers the wall and the floor seamlessly, and a lot of lighting.

I'd guess you need a good deal of space too, to shoot a full-body portrait with no perspective distortion.

Looks like a big umbrella fairly distant with an additional soft light source to the right. Long seamless paper and a medium tele focal length . 100 to 150mm? Shot is below eye level a

Camera square to the model.

Strong light coming from above left too, according to the shadows on the backdrop.

Just looking at them it looks like a ginormous light source camera left; maybe a huge (I mean huge) white reflector bouncing a strobe off of it. And a similar setup camera right, but reduced in power just a touch. It appears as though they're nearly facing each other.

If you look at this vid and then imagine that huge reflector times two with one on each side instead of facing the model.

The rest of it is a seemless paper backdrop with the model a ways from the wall.

A smartphone doesn’t have diffused lighting, seamless backgrounds, and a studio with 15’ ceilings.

Diffused lighting from left and Seamless background paper with a deep background depth to avoid body shadows. The only shadows are from feet and lower legs. The models are not close to the back wall as it seems.

seamless roll paper . 107" by 36 feet. A way to mount or preferably hang the roll. Rod or rope fed through the core, secured and then unroll the necessary amount of paper required. As you can see in your sample image they tape the paper to the floor.

Most usage would have that cropped out.

Pretty much any modern camera - or even not so modern- can shoot this. Nothing special about it. The sample is likely f8 f11 so that everything is in focus with the person wearing the clothes 4 feet +/- in front of the paper.

There are different whites so be sure to specify the formula which best suits your lighting. Some of the brighteners used do not work well in color.

A white cove is ideal if you have a dedicated space and this is going to become a regular need. The image below is likely more than most people will ever need but it represents what is out there. There is a company in LA which keeps a small cove and the octagon featured below in their warehouse allowing them to update their online site at will.

Finishing an image digitally it is easy to to remove or diminish shadows for full length shots and shooting 3/4there are no shadows. You can make the necessary adjustments pre exposure.

If you search online there are numerous examples indoors, outdoors- both with and with electrics. I have attached paper to everything from sides of buildings to racquetball courts.

Expose for the light, not the white background, and it's easy.

Asymmetric two-key lighting (more power on the left side) + seamless background.

An important aspect to get the same look is that your 2 photos were shot with the camera at about waist height and perpendicular to the models which is what I also try to do when photographing people.

In the shot below which I took while in China earlier this year, I was down on one knee to get the camera about waist height. Had I been standing, there would have been distortion in the image, especially with the dancers, which imho would have taken something away from the photo.

You need a huge space, seamless background. A Canon EOS 350D + 18-55 lens, 2 x 500 ws strobes, light stands, 2x big softboxes will do for camera and lighting equipment.
