I have been approached by a very nice lady in Atlanta to develop and teach an introductory class in digital photography to a group of 25 area children in Foster Care between the ages of 12 - 16. I have agreed to volunteer to teach the class and coordinate the activities. The class is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA. I have contacted the facility (where I hold my regular photography classes) and asked that they donate the facilities, entrance fees, and AV equipment for the event.
What I need from you are cameras ~ those used cameras that you used before upgrading to your DSLR ~ those cameras that you will get very little use from but will mean so much to the kids. It is this lady's goal to give each kid his/her own camera to use for the day and take home afterwards. It is her goal to give each kid a day and a gift that they will never forget ~ just in time for the holidays!
I also need one or two additional volunteers to provide coaching when we split up into groups of 4 or 5 students for the various photoshoots.
If you can help with either of these, please send me an e-mail message and I can supply more details. It is at least of interest to note that this kind lady got my name and contact info for this project from my participation on this forum! I met with her in person on Sunday at Callaway Gardens and have great faith in her sincerity and dedication to this project.
