GWB (animated)

It's too bad GIFs only support 256 colors, PNGs don't support animation, and every other animated format requires a plugin.

I guess I'm listening to the wrong radio station's traffic reports. Is there better traffic on the "eights" or on the "ones?"

Really nice job. Great vantage point.

Yeah the animation is rather unrealistic as far as the traffic speed is concerned. In our dreams! But the idea was just to convey motion. That is also why I used long shutter as I didn't want any particular car to be too distinct.

I am talking to people at my job to let me go on top of the pier later this year to take photos from the bridge top. = )

This will be my second climb following the Manhattan Bridge which I did last year.

Thanks for sharing the nice wide angle photo (I haven't had a chance to peak at the animation yet). Is there any vantage point that you can get a nice side elevation view?

I hope the weather is nicer when I go out.

I saw your other bridge climb shots. They're amazing.

If you go to the top of the GWB... take me with you!!!

Thanks for the compliments...I wish I could (my pal asked me the same question).

I am certified for bridge inspection which is required.

I hope this time, the time of day the folks go up is better though (doubt it will be).

Tell me when you go and I'll bring the tele and maybe get you going up. If you really want to be clever, try to time your inspection with Fleet Week so you can take unmatched pics of our warships.

In general I do not find side views of bridges to be all that photogenic (no doubt dozens of posts will follow proving me wrong ;-) The GWB in particular does not look good from the side since the span anchors are inland and obscured. The bridge looks too cropped on the Jersey side.

I think nearly head on or oblique shots are the most dramatic. Of course there are always exceptions...

I agree about the side elevation views but they are "important" for reports.

I doubt I have much control over the inspection days or times (unfortunately) but may pass them a hint hahaha. Good idea about fleet week! : )

I use PS to res down for the Web. I can try other USM settings to reduce the jaggies. They are much more pronounced on LCD monitors--particularly cheap ones.

Also notice the blurriness of some of the vertical cables? This is either related to moire or Bayer filtering (or both).

The images are very nice but I am curious about the jaggies on the
diagonals. Did you use PS CS3 Beta to reduce the image size or does
the bridge really look like that?

I think we may be talking about different things.

On both laptops and on calibrated CRT moitors I see very pronounced jaggies on the diagonal suspension cables - note that this is with the image at its maximum native size.

At first I thought that these could be related to a resize bug in the PS3 beta although I've never seen jaggies that large before.

I then downloaded a few sections of your static image and each section was fine however it looks like the image I would get were I to download all the sections and re-create the whole image would be much larger than the largest image I can get on my browsers.

I think that it is just a resize issue and that perhaps you are telling the browsers that the image is smaller than it really is leaving the browsers to resize them for display. On my browser each section is 250x275 pixels but when I download them each section is 250x325 pixels.

I see this on machines using Win 2K Pro + IE 6 and Win XP Pro + IE 7.

You're right. I made the correction. Thank you!

I'm so used to seeing average LCDs destroy color balance and so forth that I don't even blink when I see something obviously wrong.

Nice. I like the animation quite a bit the still isn't that interesting to me but the lighting is different. The still taken later with streaming light would be nice.
