I had to oppertunity to play with a Hassy with the 39MP back.....are you SURE you want to cry?....if your have that bit of Sadist in you.....here we go...

Somtimes I wonder why I do things like this to myself....so in the spirit of Misery Loves Company...and just for the morbid sick fun in it all.....

The shot:

The D2X 100% crop:

The same 100% crop from the Hassy:

This wasnt super scientific....I didnt create little control groups....yeah I am sure there were things I could have done diffrently....yada yada yada...point still is undeniable.

The tissues are over to your left....

Anyone want to contribute to the Roman Johnston 39MP back fund?!?

Well, I was tempted for a minute when I saw the Calumet lease offer for $699/month. Then I decided that I didn't want to learn a new aspect ratio.

That and remembering that my first house mortgage was $325/month(1975)

Dammit, Roman!

Just when you an Matt had me believing that an aspiring landscape photographer COULD have a chance with a DX format camera, you had to go and do this!

--takes little D200 and slinks away, head hanging--

That's really an incredible demonstration of the power available in those MF backs, I'm stunned. My only question- is the crop area in-focus on your D2x shot? It looks a little soft, more so than I'd expect.

Where did you put those tissues again? :-)

Please feel free to critique anything I post. I'm here to learn.

I put them through my basic workflow...both were taken on a tripod...remote release...mirror lockup.

The D2X is upresed to to 25MP in ACR....

My shot will still print 30x45...but not with the same level of detail as the hassy at that size.....

I am just getting by printing that large with my D2X.....but that is all I need for now....hopefully I will earn enough to get that with the Horseman SW-D body.

...it's noisy, and it suffers from light falloff. LOL!

You've got me thinking about whether or not I really NEED a new car now Roman! Or the house I was hoping to buy. Or my retirement plan.

Decisions, decisions.

Perhaps I'll check Ken Rockwell's site for an exhaustive 'I've never used this camera' review!.

I'm guessing the only reason you're not still in possession of this camera, Roman, is because its rightful owner can run faster than you!

Remarkable!

Seeing this made me wonder how the hassy would compare to 4x5 or 5x7 film?

I really loved my 4x5 for detailed outdoor shots, but WOW the hassy is amazing for a digital unit.

What an expensive camera.

What kind of users/photographers purchase it? I expect professional studios? Who else?

Landscape photographers printing very large.

I can get quality 40"x60" with this file no problem.

A 40x60 print would sell for about $1,300.00 - $1,500.00 framed and matted (depending onf frameing materials)

Problem is.....you have to have the camera to print that big....

Cart.....horse.

It's been nice knowing you Roman. Time to move on. With your ability and the Hassy, it's a match made in heaven. This is the format you were destined for.

Your photos are amazing, but you have reached the resolution limit when it comes to landscape.

Go for it.

Can one get a mortgage on something like this :-) ?

A bargain! At that price I think I'll get two... when I win the lottery.

Roman, what was the file size on that 39mp bad boy?

WOuldnt take long to fill up a card.

But then again...it would make me slow down and shoot les...at better quality....I kinda like things that slow down my processes a bit.
