I'm an experienced amateur photographer but very inexperienced with video! I have a Fuji XE3 and have recently purchased a DJI RS4 Mini gimbal, but I'm trying to find out how best to connect the two for basic shooting control.
The DJI website says that the DJI RS3 Mini gimbal (predecessor to mine) is compatible with the Fuji XE3 using DJI's USB C to Micro USB cable (which is unavailable) https://www.dji.com/uk/support/compatibility/rs-3-mini/xe3
Question: Given I can't buy the DJI official cable is it likely that any decent USB C to Micro USB cable will work?
I'm hoping that the fact that the newer RS4 Mini doesn't list my Fuji XE3 as a compatible camera is merely because the XE3 is quite old now and not because it's unable to receive commands from an RSI RS4 Mini. I see that both the RS3 and RS4 Mini do both list the Fuji XT2 for example as compatible so I presume therefore that the command protocols travelling down the wire are identical between the two gimbals... I guess I am about to find out but would welcome views!
I should add that I bought the gimbal to learn a bit about videography and to enable me to capture some smooth video of my beloved classic car which I am selling after 29 years to put my daughter through university. Interestingly my daughter is about to embark upon a Film making degree so I also bought the gimbal to assist her with the film projects she will doubtless be required to undertake. I figured that it might be useful if I upskill myself a bit so I can assist her on productions.
I realise of course that she will doubtless have access to much more advanced video cameras and gimbals on her course but I felt just learning some basic handling and filming techniques with the gear we have to hand might be useful and fun together.
My main stills camera is the Pentax K1 and full holy trinity of pro grade lenses but those are right on the 2Kg weight limit of the gimbal and the K1 doesn't support autofocus in video anyway so I figured the Fuji (with 18-55 F2.8-4) would be better.
It might be that I would have been better purchasing the RS3 Mini and in truth I just assumed that all gimbals would work with all cameras up to their weight limit when I bought it - silly me! Seems video is much more of a minefield than I anticipated! Longer term if my daughter feels the need to acquire a better camera for video use and I get into it more I will probably sell my Pentax system and acquire something like the Nikon Z6 III as it seems to be the leading choice for video right now at a semi-affordable price and would enable me to still shoot top quality stills.
Interested in any views on the above and advice for the future. Anyway I took a chance and ordered a USB C to Micro USB cable from Amazon to see if I can get them linked up which should arrive today.
