Focus racking on camera startup

I'm hoping someone can help with the following minor issue I have with my Canon R5 and R5 mkii.

When shooting macro photography with my EF lenses, I typically turn off the camera to avoid battery drain as well as inadvertent changes to settings while I walk around with the rig hanging on a strap. When I turn the camera back on, invariably the camera racks focus to infinity. Obviously, this is not ideal as it takes precious time to move the focus back into the macro distances to get on target. Also of importance, I shoot macro in manual focus with the lens switched so on the toggle switch.

Does anyone know of a settings change I can use to avoid this?

Thanks in advance.

Try setting “retract lens on power off” to off.

Agreed.

On both the R5 and R5m2, this function is under the Brown/Custom functions menu tab 4

Thank you both so much!

I only wish this was obvious in the menu.
According to most people's reviews, Canon's menu system is superior to those of other camera companies. Still, it is primitive by modern-day computer standards.

I keep the latest manual in PDF on my computer. The hard problem is knowing which term to use to find the desired function and realizing that it exists in the first place. You need some kind of AI search.

Once I find something I might need, I add it to the Green/Custom menus. The biggest problem with the Green/My Menu is then scrolling through hundreds of items in semi-random order to find the one you want to add. (Is there a list somewhere?).

This is enabled by default to protect the focussing mechanisms of the smallest lenses such as the RF 16mm & 28mm. Those lenses protest if you attach a lens cap when the camera is turned on, as the front element is tracked out a little even at infinity focus.

This is annoying if you want focus to be maintained when the camera is switched off (either manually or by timing out), but at least Canon give you the option. It's remembered by the Custom modes, so you can set it up not to retract for macro and astro work while still protecting the more delicate lenses the rest of the time.
