Family Archive Workflow?

Hello everyone!

I have a HUGE collection of family and friends photo archives, including having inherited my father's large slide collection (from the 1950's and onward), a massive archive of prints and negatives dating back many decades, etc. It's thousands of photographs. They're all digitized.

I want to find a way to organize them, tag faces, locations, and years, and then upload them so my family and friends around the world can download and keep copies of whatever photos they want. Some details:

- I am a Mac user and a professional photographer.
- I am tech savvy.
- I am fairly fluent in Adobe (Lightroom Classic and Photoshop).
- I also use Apple Photos.

For all my experience (I've been a photographer for over 35 years), I actually don't know what workflow is best for this.

Some have recommended doing all of the tagging and organizing in Lightroom and then exporting and uploading to Google photos. Some using my VPS which is hosted through one of the large hosting companies for my professional website. I have enough room there to host all of the photos.

The next question is, what resolution to export all of these photos at for people? Do I export them at full resolution and have a massive several terabyte set of galleries or do I export them as medium-size JPEG just so people can have them and then if they want the high resolution of a few of the photos for printing or something, I can send those out to family members as requested

Last question, if I do use Lightroom for facial recognition and tagging locations and dates, etc., what is the best way to organize all of these photos in that program?

As an example, I have a set of slides from when my dad marched in the Rose Bowl parade with Ohio State University in 1955. I would want to tag those with the date and location, but also the names of the people in some of the photos like him and my grandparents. I also have photos of my dad from many times he visited me over the years and we took vacations together, like a trip to Yosemite NP. Those photos would get tagged with that location, those dates and his name, and whoever other friends were in those photos.

What I don't know about Lightroom is, does it have the power to create on its own separate galleries for the different tags?

For instance, if I searched for my friend named Ken, would it create a gallery of all the photos Ken has been tagged in? And then do I have to upload separate galleries for every single person or can I just upload one massive collection of photos and people can search for their own name or whatever?

I'm just not really sure the best way to organize all of this and I know it's a huge project and will take probably a year or two to finish, but I want do it right from the start!

Any advice and help would be appreciated!

Thank you! :-)
Daniel

My collection is smaller than yours, some of it yet to be digitized, and I am not a PS/LR user.

I had the same question and am searching DPR. If I don't find an answer, I will post in the Open Talk forum.

If you find out, please let me know!

Thank you! :)

I'm a Mac person, so that won't work for me as it's Windows only. But thank you for sending it and good luck with it if it works for you!
