Stunning...sharp...perfect exposure...perfect aperature...outstanding sharpness and optical performance and you have a good eye for taking pictures too. ;)

The first two are excellent imo, the main thing being that they are not overdone.

The third picture looks unrealistic to me, probably something to do with how much detail there is in the needles or something, it´s too obvious that this isn´t natural lighting and/or it cannot be captured in one shot.

I like your shots. Sometimes I see folks do HDR that is way over done. You seemed to find a good balance with these.

Yes, Danel. Exactly what I was hoping for. Overdone HDR does not appeal to me, but as a way to expand DR, I see a lot of potential. I find Trey Ratcliff's work to be all along the spectrum... from light touch to very heavy touch. His lighter touch work is very inspiring to me.

Thanks for your comment.

Agreed.

I don't see it like that. As a matter of fact, it looks pretty normal to me ... not HDR at all. The camera can deliver that shot straight out of the camera with maybe some post-processing.

I think these look very good, like somebody else said "very balanced" and natural.
I've got the same software, but I really struggle with this.
Do you use "generate HDR image" or "exposure fusion" ?

I also like your images very much but I am curious about their dynamic range; these scenes don't look like they should have required HDR. Did you really need more than 8 EV's of DR? There are no over-bright light sources or deep black holes to expose. Can you look at the individual images and estimate the total dynamic range?

A normal sunlit outdoor side- or back-lit scene should be well within the D90's dynamic range. It may require some tone curve work to darken the skies and lighten some shadows but the tone data should have all fit in one raw image file.

BTW, I went to your site and I really like your images. Strong compositions, great color.

Werner - thanks very much for your comments.

In my experience, I can achieve very decent DR in the D90 and then in PP (Aperture). I also use Nik Color Efex Pro which helps (through a tonal contrast filter). BUT... in playing around (and I'm new to this), HDR does allow for an even greater range. When I shoot scenes with a lot more variance in the range, I'm getting a more "painterly" effect which I'm not loving.

I'm still experimenting and will post more soon, particularly some cityscape scenes which seem to lend themselves well to this technique.

Again, thanks for your comments.
