--Hi, I need an easy photo editing program. I have been reading and reading but can't seem to find the one for me. This is what I need/want. first of all I have a Canon G2 and it came with Adobe Photoshop 5 L.E... I have absolutely no idea how to use this. It is way to hard to figure out!

I am a very new photographer. The G2 probably is way to much camera for me, but I wanted 4 megapixals so I got it! I just basically use the auto mode on it. Ok, back to what I need in an editing program. I want to be able to crop (zoom in on a subject that I was just too far away from) and change any kind of coloring that didn't turn out right. I am an avid dog shower and want to get good photos for advertising etc. also want good pictures of my kids etc. so a good, easy basic editing program that does lots! with emphasis on "easy to learn".
thanks so much.

Jolene , you need to do some downloading and play with some of all the programs that are available. You can try most for 30 days and if you like it just send in the modest cost for your unlock code.

Maybe start with Photobrush, if you like it then the cost is only $38, if I remember correctly. For picture file managing I like the old (version 3.1) ACDSee, version 4 did not turn me on.
Happy downloading...... Rolf

You can download Abobe Photoshop Elements from http://www.adobe.com and try it out for 30 days. First, I would try the ENHANCE feature at the top. Play around with all of them. You can always undo by going to EDIT and undo. Go to FILTER and try the "sharpen" command. Later you can work on the unsharp mask. Go to IMAGE to resize, rotate, crop. I like Elements because it has many one click features and many features that will take you time to learn. With Elements, if you want one click enhancement, you have it. If you want to experiment, you can.

I just went to the adobe website and clicked on tryouts. Adobe photoshop Elements does not have a 30 trial. Or am I looking in the wrong area? can you help?
thanks.

I'm afraid I don't see point of recommending Elements if PS5 LE is too complex or involved.

PS LE 5 can be very capable and relatively easy to use if you'll just take a minute or two to inquire in the Help section of the program you can easily learn the features you want.

Run LE, load a test image and try the following:
Auto Levels - a general enhancement tool (Image> Adjust> Auto Levels)

Cropping - use the marquis tool (hatched rectangle) to select a desired area then Image> Crop
Sharpening - If the image needs a little sharpening (Filter> Sharpen> Sharpen)

Getting familiar with these three items will take care of your immediate needs and get you more comfortable with the program at the same time. Perhaps you'll feel a little more at ease and investigate some additional features.

Good luck,
Rick

Try one of these and you will remember me. Easy, intutive, powerfull, efficient. You are going to want to use it. You will have a difficult time using PhotoShop Elements. Very long learning curve.

They also come with some good rebates that bring down the cost to a minimal for their value. Sorry no trials but you don't need them.

Hi, There a number of excellent photo editing programs avaliable, but almost all of them are difficult for a beginner who does not have someone around to help get started. I find the easiest to be Microsoft Picture It. If you are a Costco member, you can get a copy for about $4 after rebate. If you don't like it, you haven't lost much. There's a lot you can't do with it, but there is a lot you can, especially if you are a beginner. You can always move up to more sophisticated software as you learn.

Most of the folks who make recommendations are suggesting you get a 18-wheeler to haul a sack of grass seed when a pickup will do just fine. On the other hand, if you need to haul 20 tons, then the 18-wheeler is the way to go.

My 12-year old grandaughter uses Picture It, and all I did was to show her how to scan a picture. Berge

Jolene,

Berge gave you really good advice.

Another idea: Check this out. If you have a newer computer, it may have Microsoft Photo Editor already installed on it.
