E20 contraption

300mm lens adaptor for the E10/E20 & the support brace. Looks like there might be an additional tele lens adaptor on the end, too, but I'm not sure about this. I never could afford to purchase the 300mm lens and the brace when I owned the E20 (in 2004) because together they cost close to $1000 US.

Cheers,

Thats the TCON-300 with the TCON-14 stuck on the front with a
step-ring.
Yea, what was it called - super bazooka ??

I still have the bits as new in a drawer. I should sell them really as while I still use the E10 a lot, for telephoto use, I've now got the 50-200 and teleconvertor.
It was fun frightening the neighbors with it though :-)

That's the "Bazooka" combo. It's a combo of the 300B and the 14B that few of us ever mastered. Add a LIPO to it and the SA-2 support arm and it becomes even more intimidating.

Mark Ehlers, Mark E (do a search) became a MASTER with this combination a few years ago.

I don't think I ever really mastered the 300 myself. The 14b on the E20 was a gem of a combo but I thought it all went a bit rough when added to the 300...

The TC300 with the TC14 work great with the E10/20 on a tripod (impossible to hand hold and get sharp images - I know, I have tried even with make shift supports). It is 'delicate' in that the TC14 is attached via a 49 to 62mm step up ring, and most rings do not have threads all the way to the flange, resulting in a little wobble.

Incidently, the same combo, or just the TC300, can be used on the FZ30, resulting in outstanding performance (astro photography and wild life). You simply have to remove the locating pins and the FZ30 (which is interally focused and zoomed), fits like it was made for the converter.

Doug,
How steady is that system, and where can you get the support frame?

Thanks

NATO? or try 'military surplus'!

Yeah, that's the one Doug! However did you think that that was a reasonable purchase?

Go on.. let me into the thought process... did you think you'd look cool or something? Was it for the 'wimin' or did you think you'd fit in better at those 'science fiction' conventions? ;-)

FZ30 is the Panasonic camera (try the Panasonic forum). Has OIS and a 12x zoom for under $500. Nice Zeis lens, looks like an SLR but has an EVF (not as nice as the KM A2, but better than most. Like most EVF cameras, there is some lag (not much, but enough that you need to anticipate shots of moving objects).

On the plus side, it is easy to use, small, relatively inexpensive, and when combined with the Tcon's, makes a nice astrophotography set up (much cheaper than adding a long telephoto to the E series). It does have a fixed 55mm filter mount, which means you can attach the TCON14 with a step up ring (the filter mount does not move, and the lens focuses and zooms interally). The TCON300 works without a step ring, but I use one to halp keep unwanted light out. A 49-62mm adapter lets the TCON014 attach to the TCON300. Oh, the locating pins require that you take the base plate off and unscrew the pins.

The Bigma is the Sigma 50-500mm zoom --- soon to be appearing in a 4/3 mount near you for a 35mm equivalent of 100mm-1000mm ! For the price, if it's near as good on 4/3 as on other mounts it'll be some seriously affordable reach.

As already mentioned, the TCON-300 + TCON-14B combo is the "bazooka"

The Hubble attachment was optional and of exceptional quality, but didn't sell well at all due to its price.

the super bazooka was the only way I could get close enough to
wildlife using an Olympus camera at the time. The focal length was
roughly equivalent to my E-1 + 300mm + 1.4x teleconverter.
I just cranked the numbers and that sounds right -- 820mm vs 832mm.

But with all that stacking, wasn't there quite a lot of vignetting on the super-bazooka? What was the effective wide open aperture?
