I just noticed that my firmware version is different than a couple of the early adopters of the E-10

An October sample ( probably from a pre-release was 42-0106
My firmware is 42-0119

I just check an early adopter who posted the real jpeg rather than the photopoint version of an image, and his firmware was 42-0116

I have a Mac Program called iView Multimedia that reads this info. I'm not sure if Cammedia does or not.

Anybody want to see how many versions are out there?

How do I tell which version I have?

Bill,

I have firmware 42-0116
E-10 bought from Tri-State on 11-01-00
I am also running 340MD with no problems, so far.

I am so bummed about this.

Steve's production camera images show a 119 firmware, while every other image from a production level camera I've seen has the 116 firmware upgrade. I just called Olympus and was told that there is only one firmware, which clearly is incorrect.

It appears that they have incrementally improved the camera's firmware in some way.

The information is contained in the EXIF heading information that is contained in every file, along with the shutter figures, aperture figures, exposure info, etc.

I know of several programs that can give you this info - one is called PIE and one is called thumber - I believe both are shareware, although I don't know where to download either from. I'm sure a search at deja.com will help you find one of these programs.

I took some shots with a unit that was just received Monday here in Santa Barbara, CA. It was a 42-0119 version.

Another program (Mac) is GraphicConverter. You should be able to find it through VersionTracker. I believe any program that can read the EXIF image data will work (it also shows exposure info).
How do I tell which version I have?
Mac People:
Download Shareware at

http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=1&id=2242/iview.hqx

or if the response is not too overwelming, e-mail me a sample and I
will e-mail you the answer.

This can be updated at their website, right? So there's no reason to worry about which version you might get when you buy a camera???

No! According to my conversation with Olympus tech support, the firmware definitely will not be user upgradeable.

If the differences aren't very significant (in their eyes), I think there is a very good chance that they won't even offer a send-in-for-payment option to upgrade. With the C2000Z, they upgraded the firmware at least once and didn't offer any upgrade options.

You can check the firmware version with Microsoft Word; just open any picture with word (select "All Files") and scroll about 1 page down through the mess; you'll see "Olympus Digital Camera" and then the firmware number. Mine is 42-116. Bummer!

So, it sounds like if you don't already own the camera, it might be beneficial to wait a while to buy one to insure that you get the most recent
version of firmware

I received my 119 E-10 yesterday from Microwarehouse. So far, none of the focus or other
problems mentioned. Great camera!
