You mean dogs tail? It's sharp IMHO, but I would return camera being you.

Don't trust your eyes or mind, they might betray you! Trust only comments posted on the forums, because there is the absolute truth!

Eyes are in focus and sharp enough.

Yeah, return the camera.

It should have gone on full alert and warn you that the dog is too close for the camera settings. Better yet, if it had shrieked for you two to increase your distance, it would have helped.

But I give you kudos for getting both the eyes and the nose in focus. Compare this to the FF shots in which only only the nose or the eyes are in focus, but not both.

Also kudos to the dog for posing patiently for so long.

Bad camera, good doggy :)

Have you ever thought the problem might be your dog and not the camera?

This breed is known for their softness and are not very sharp.

Return the dog.
Not sharp, maybe especially on his edges and corners but he has high IQ. See the gleam in his eyes?

Keep the dog, return the owner, I say.

Woof!

+1, Woof

Plane of focus seems to be the snout area.
As intended. The camera-dog Android reaction. Meeting of the Minds. They are in complete synch.

I think both camera and dog need a sharper owner.

Hi Neil,

Why would you think that this is not sharp considering you are using f4, which is presumably on a 16-50 lens at near max aperture and min DOF?.

What else have you tried to test this on? What makes you feel that you might have a bad camera?

Strange question. In the circumstances I would work to get more familar with your camera, and forgive me, perhaps with the basics of photography in general. FWIW the pic is no sharper than you should expect in the circumstances.

In most circumstances the photos you get will only be as good as the photographer - and that applies to ALL cameras. If you had a bad canmera you wousdl probably know about it from other symptoms it exhibits.

Hope this helps

Ray

If you'd put the dog's face out of focus, and waited until it moved it's head, and then focused on the tail while it was motionless, we'd have something that might give us pause, so to speak.
