Do you still use your Z50 after upgrading to full frame?

I have one more week to decide whether to return my Z50 or keep it as a smaller travel camera. Wondering if I go ahead and get a Z6ii, if I would ever want use the Z50 because of it's portability. It was a pretty good deal at $425 for the kit, so not a huge sum of money, but could go to a nice full frame lens.
Just comparing the Z50 with images from my D700 I'm hoping for better results with the Z7ii. The lens I used on my D700 were top notch and the Z50 was used with the 16-50 kit lens.

Return or Keep the Z50?

I paired my Z7II with a Z50, and often found myself grabbing the Z50 a little more than the Z7II. The same went for my D500 D7100 combo. Now I pair the Z6III with the Z50II, and they are nearly identical to operate. I just need cycle-AF and to remap the ilum button I never use on the Z6III, along with bird-only-AF.

I will mention that the Z50II isn't as compact as the Z50, and I'm not crazy about that. Just as the Z6III is bulkier than the Z6II. I couldn't do without the EVF on the Z30. So I'd still like something smaller, Nikon, and full-frame... a rangefinder!

HOWEVER, I'm considering upgrading the Z50II to the Z5II next year so that I can share all my lenses and batteries between them. Full frame is just better, even when I compared my Z50 to the original Z5, but the Z50II focused better.

Before I got a FX Z camera I had used DX DSLRs. No FX DSLRS.

I got a Z5 to test the FX waters and ended up loving it.

A year after getting the Z5 I purchased as Z50. I often wanted something smaller than the Z5 or my D7X00 DSLR bodies. I ended up really liking the Z50 also.

I have more lenses for the Z5 than DX specific lenses for the D50 but I use both bodies about equally.

Z50 and the DX 16-50 kit lens or a DX prime doesn't take up much space in the messenger back or small lumbar pack that goes almost everywhere with me except places where cameras are not permitted or not appropriate. The Z50 and the kit lens also take up minimal space in my fishing boat bag and its my principle hiking camera when I have to manage all the food and other accoutrements for myself, my dog, and my wife. When hiking the Z50 either goes in my lumbar pack our mounted on a backpack strap with a Peak Capture Clip. The Z5 an a zoom is bulkier than I like on the Capture Clip.

I take my Z50 with the the 24/1.7DX on trips/vacations the majority of the time. Between it's small size, the challenge of being restricted to only one lens, and the benefit of having built-in flash, it's a way to make photography fun again for me since my day-to-day is so equipment dependent. Small, simple, and fun.

I had bought a Z50 as smaller (and cheaper) alternative for travel, because my Z6 is to bulky & heavy. My advise is: Keep it.

I actually use my APS-C cameras more often than my full-frame Nikon because they are lighter. My full-frame camera is usually reserved for situations where low light sensitivity or quality in general is important (staged shoots, events, etc). And the smaller APS-C is used for travelling or as an everyday camera.

In short, I use both. If forced to choose between the two, I would rather do without the full-frame body as it is a more specialised instrument.

But everyone's needs are different ;-)

Why would anyone quit using their Z50 just because they have a full frame camera also. Different tools for different stuff.

In my case, I would regret selling my Z50 (recently upgraded to a Z50ii). For overseas travel, the lighter and smaller DX kits help meet some of the ever more restrictive carry-on luggage requirements, e.g. Lufthansa, SwissAir. Just came back from a Lufthansa European trip last week and my Z DX kit passed with flying colors (where my FX kit would be more challenging to stay within the limits).

While I used to travel with a D700 and two f2.8 zooms, today I really enjoy the lighter weight of today's Z DX options. The kit Z DX zooms w/VR are really good, too.

I also have a Z6iii and a number of Z FX lenses for situations where FX is my preferred tool for the job.

If I were limited to a FX kit, I'd always moan about situations where a Z50/Z50ii would be preferable and vice versa if limited to a DX setup. My experience is that having both DX and FX options is a wonderful blessing.

Keep it, as you said the Z50 (or Z50ii) Two Lens Kit is a very good price. Note I originally had a Z6 and a Z50; traded them for the Z6iii and Z50ii. Everything I say about the Z50ii applies to the Z50.

I find the Z50ii to be a welcome very small kit for many trips. In addition the Z50ii serves as an excellent pseudo TC-1.5x and in fact can put more pixels on target than using the Z6iii with Nikon's TC-1.4x

I use my Z50ii more than my Z6iii but I most shoot wildlife and appreciate the crop/reach. But I use both as each has its strongsuits.

Life is all about choices. I use my Z50II when I want to travel light or am looking for that extra reach with the 1.5 crop. I use my full frame cameras in other situations. Personally, I would keep the Z50. The pre-sale value may not be that great and there are times when you might want a lighter, smaller but very capable camera.
