I downloaded the upgrade and tried to install it as directed. However the camera did not automatically switch off at the end of u/grade as it should and on checking the version of software in camera ("about") it is still the original ver 1.0 i have carried out instructions using the U~SB cable as directed ... any advice on what may be wrong or how to do the up grade please ??--Ron Cooper

Ron,

I downloaded the upgrade last night and installed it via USB with
no problem. The only thing I can think of is maybe you didn't
correctly tell the updater how your camera is connected... make
sure you choose USB (last entry on righthand column).

I also updated the desktop software (usb driver, I guess), but did
it after updating the camera.

Good luck.

John: I'm not aware that the firmware is down loadable from any site yet. Are you sure you downloaded 290 firmware?...and if so from where?

We're chatting about the 280, not the 290.

I just checked Kodak's web site and didn't see any updates
for the 290, so there doesn't appear to be an official release
yet. There are some other threads discussing the 290
update, one of those may have a URL to the file.

I'd recommend

I had a little difficulty. There are two steps that need to be emphasized. See Steps 5 and 7 below as I have editied them. It is key you extract the file by running the exe file that you download and that the camera is int the Camera Setup mode when you turn it on.

5. In the folder on your hard disk where you copied the extracted firmware files (the program will put them in C:\Program Files\Kodak\DC_280_Firmware_Update), select the specified file and drag it to the System folder on the card:

6. Remove the memory card from the reader and place it back into the camera. The camera should be powered down.

7. Turn on the camera in the “Camera Setup” mode.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the help. I've now managed to upgrade the firmware OK. I needed to open the upgrade file in Prors/Kodak/... and not simply double click the download icon which I had been doing...
