I have a hypothesis: Dan may not be all he appears to be.

I may very well be wrong about this, but I am willing to put up the challenge and see how Dan responds:

Dan, today or tomorrow, purchase a USA Today newspaper. Then setup your wonderful S30 camera to take a photo the front page directly below or beside your face, zoomed in to clearly show the headline of the newspaper with your unique face. Also, please wear different clothes than your other photo. Then post the photo here.

At least then I will know you are not misrepresenting your appearance and this will give you a little creditbility in my book. I know you do not care what I think so don't bother telling me.

I do not expect you will oblige me and perform this request. If cost is an issue, I will send you the $1.-- http://www.pbase.com/dnewell228/

As long as we are hypothisising: here is mine:

Danny Boy is a bully. Nothing but an internet version of the classic school yard bully.

He is here simply to stir up trouble. He starts threads knowing they will "stir the pot" or "ruffle feathers". (See his "S30 vs G2" thread or the infamous "JPEG vs. RAW"). He is here to get a reaction out of us. So far it is working, we all get upset everytime he opens his flappy jaws at us.

If he honestly believed there was merit to his theories and to his arrogance he would have his pictures posted and show us he has something to brag about. So far, we've seen nothing. Why? Because he has NOTHING. Nada, zilch, zip, zero (my guess is these are words he is very familiar with as they apply to his intellegence as well).

My theory? Danny Boy is a psychology teacher at VanWert High teaching his students about anger and rage. We're all his test subjects folks!

Remember what Mom used to tell us about bullies? Ignore them and they'll go away. Why don't we make Danny a test subject and ignore him. Let's see how long it takes him to go away when he isn't getting a response from us. My bet? It'll take him a week to slither back into his hole.

I don't know why you let him wind you up? I read his posts and just laugh! I think his comments are very funny.

Dan is so far off in outer space.. I just grin when I see his posts knowing he has just put some weird picture or had some nutty thought he feels he must share with everyone. As for him being an active teacher...Hmmmmmmm. Oh well :-)

After looking at those I wonder how he can say anything sarcastic about any pictures. I mean Whew! I am only an amateur myself in the full meaning but I have binned better pictures.

I do not usually make comments like this but I shall make an exception for Dan. He is obviously not a full shilling! He should leave other people alone now hopefully.

well, it goes to show, that you have to be careful with what you say. in his case he comments on other's work, and on the other his work is not that great. i can only assume that he wanted blurred out of focus pictures of nothing. that it was his full creative potential as a photographer.

though looking at it in more detail, some of them look like direct crops - and they are hardly ever focused looking.

I don’t give my own work much credit. My digital camera is modest, my photographic skills are modest, and I’m a little self conscious about that in here among real photographers.

I was a professional photographer for several years and I would think that I’ve exposed and developed as many pics as most but it was security photography. The shots were of things I had to keep regular surveillance on so I took tons and tons of shots of the same few hundred things all the time. Technically I’m solid but I never did learn how to compose a frame.

Maybe it’s because of my own shortcomings that I’m so quick to admire other people’s work. Some of the stuff in here really blows me away. What's more, the true artists I've known seem quick to find value in the content of others.

I’ve never met a real photographer who was so critical of GOOD work as Dan is. Dan is not wired up like any photographer I know. That’s fine in itself but it makes me skeptical of his artistic abilities. I suspect that Dan is more like me in that he’s not a true artist, he just enjoys photography and the equipment.

I think real art comes from something personal deep inside. It’s not the sort of thing that is competitive in nature. Rather, it’s expressive.

As for me, I’m having a ball with digital photography. I have no delusions of possessing skill as a photographer, though.

Dan wins - everybody is still talking about him!

BTW, some of his quotes :
There is no such thing as anything being perfect in the universe--there is no absolute darkness. no absolute flat surface--and so on.

--I won't take what you or anyone else says at face value--and I hope you will not do the same for me.
I know to test a thesis before accepting something at face value

--I said take everything they say with a grain of salt--then assume that everything they said is false unless you learn otherwise on your own. Most people carry around false notions--even I do.
He loves to spark controversal conversation. These statements, and follow-on responses would make a good study in psychology--Jim

just looked at those s30 results. faux-tography?

some of the pictures that I posted were done with a $74 digi cam I bought over a year ago. It's highes pix rating is 352 X288--overy 100,000 pixels!!! The name of it is the Quickpix1 (Qp1) and you can see at at the foloowing site:
http://www.nisis.com

Just click on the logo for digital cameras--then when you get to the next screec--click on the Qp1. It is actually capable of taking decent pictures outside and does wonders to clouds. But it has never done well inside and hasn't any flash.

I don't know what you mean by your french expression--but I take it to mean something about the quality of a couple of my pictures--most especially where I am on the couch with my dog GoldiBear. It wouldn't have been too bad if the thumbnail thingy hadn't blown it up like it did. I might be able to fix that--much later.
