For me, the subject is too dark. Had you used a large white reflector (think 2ftx3ft white mat board here) you could have bounced window light onto the un-lit side of subject. Also the bright window can darkened a bit so as to be less distracting. Otherwise I think it's a great shot of your dad!

Thanks for the comments. This was a quick grab shot of a man who hates being photographed !

He did like the result though. And for me, It's a keeper.

I pretty much agree with the other comments. But your images, as shot, has a great deal of potential waiting to be brought out.

While i would agree with losing the light area to the left, To me these two versions look way over edited with blown highlights on the top of his head and a little over sharpened.
 
Very nice. I love the subtle low-key lighting on his face. Although I do think it might look better with a little darkening of the left side, you certainly don't want to mess up the photo's essence.
