Hello, I have an old D3s that I am currently using for low light stadium HS sports. I have noticed a faint phantom looking rectangle centered on my monitor screen. It is there regardless whether the camera is on or off. Is this normal? I don't think I have moisture inside the camera. The camera functions without any issues.

Damn....I thought i was the only one left who is sometimes still using the D3S ;-)

As an owner I don't have this phenomena, was nothing pressed on the screen with this shape?

Nothing on the Gorilla glass. The outline of the rectangle seems like the size of the DX senor.

Wow, this is crazy. I actually had a D3 for short while and it had the same exact outline. I was only the third owner, the others being a retiree and a professional. I thought someone down the line used cleaning solution that ate away the coating or something.

The phantom rectangle is the outline of what DX would capture in a photo. But it is strange that it shows up. The D3s is my go to camera for sports. I'm too old to get a mirrorless body + adaptor to accomodate my expensive FX lens.

It‘s a known issue of the D3 series. LCD fogging.

Hope the link works

Thanks for the link. The fog is the same size as what a DX lens would cover. Otherwise, the D3s is still my workhorse for HS sports in 2024.
