The topic of this mini challenge is "The Color Blue".

I'm looking for photos where either the blue color is dominant or there is a blue object that is an important part of the photo. This includes landscape photos with the blue sky, reflections of the sky in some kind of water surface, blue objects, even blue eyes if they stand out in the photo. Photos with selective color, ie. B&W photos with some blue color in it are not eligible for this mini challenge.

I'm sure everybody has a few photos that fit the topic and I'm looking forward to seeing your submissions. Let the fun begin!

Following this post will be a few samples as well as a list of the past challenges/winners.

The challenge will run for 10 days, starting today on Tuesday, July 25th, 2006 @ 12.00 and ending on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2006 @ 18:00 Ljubljana time. For your time zone look here:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=8&day=3&year=2006&hour=18&min=0&sec=0&p1=736 .

THE RULES

The host gives you a topic of interest and you get going. You post your image(s). The host chooses the winner. The decision of the judge (the host) is final. The judge is not eligible. The winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner, and passes on the baton to that person.
Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera.

You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo. Feel free to comment on other contestants' images. If you want someone to leave you a piece of constructive criticism, put an asterisk ( ) next to the title of the image.
Here are some guidelines:

When posting your picture, change the Subject of your post to display your name or picture titles. This way, when someone comments (i.e. replies), it will refer specifically to you. If all entries read "Re: Mini Challenge 116"... it would be very boring to scan the list.

Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website). Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll ( 650 pixels on the longest side works best.) 150K max size please.
And how do you embed a picture? I'm glad you asked:

1. While your photo on Flickr (or any other web site) is open, copy the URL address from the address box on your tool bar, then paste it into your reply thread. Add a .jpg extension to get the photo to show up. Click on preview to make sure it's what you want.
Or

2. Right click on the image in Flickr (or where ever you've hosted it), click on "Properties"..., highlight the link with the .jpg extension on it, and paste it into your message text. Provide any additional information you want.

As usual, if you appreciate constructive criticism, put a star ( ) at the end of the subject line of your entry.
The challenge begins now and ends on the deadline prescribed above.

You may enter up to three pictures, but try to put them within a single post. Please give a title to each photo... this makes it easier to differentiate when giving comments.

Again, as a show of courtesy, and to save bandwidth, please remove the original post when replying, so you don't bring back any previous photos.

Ana, good topic, should elicit many great images but I think I will stay away from skys/water:

1. What's behind the Blue Door?

2. House of Blues:

3. Blue Skis:

Comments welcomed...

,,, the layering in the first one is awesome and the detail of @2 is great.. #3 looks more purple on my monitor.

congrats again Ana! and a interesting topic.

I took a look through my collection and tried to refrain from mountain/ocean shots and managed to find some other, hopefuly interesting shots in blue. here goes...

1. "Blue Cafe" - London, UK, Canon EOS 20D, EF-S 17-85mm IS

2. "Marine Building" - Vancouver, BC, Canon EOS 20D, EF 70-300mm DO

and finally, one obligatory blue sky photo :) if you look carefully, you can see the moon...

3. "Inukshuk" - Vancouver, BC, Canon Powershot G2. Years after I took this photo, this coincidentally now has become the symbol for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics here in Vancouver

Here is my first entry. I was very happy to capture this with my S3 IS, although I am always looking for improvement.

Hi Patsy
thanks! btw, I saw your post in the other thread about visiting Vancouver...

the Inukshuk is downtown by the beach (Sunset beach / English Bay beach), just off the intersection of Beach Ave and Bidwell St. http://vancouver.ca/publicart_wac/publicart.exe/indiv_artwork?pnRegistry_No=172

take a look around the City of Vancouver webpage above, they have a listing of most of the public art in town. there's quite a few interesting pieces around town, if you like that sort of thing. e.g. some other large pieces just across the water in Vanier Park (in the public art registry above, Kitsilano area)...
...because I'm going to Vancouver for the first time and would like
to see public art like that. Three nice shots, by the way.
