Challenge 171 - Minimal Color

This challenge should include images which are brought to life with a minimal amount of color (not to be confused with selective color).
Please have fun with this and I'm hoping to inspire much participation!

Penny, you sure are on a roll with the Fujimugs win and another win here in CTF! Your new topic sounds interesting and it may be a challenge for me to find anything for Exhibition as I frequently go for BIG color! LOL! ;-) So, can we reprocess an image, maybe desat a bit to get minimal color?

Open to so many interpretations.

Splendid job getting the initial gallery setup so fast. I have to get to sleep so I shall check the gallery setup details(the dates) tommorow.

thanks Techo. I tried to pick something broad.

So far as the galleries, it seems like it's taken me forever. I'm sure I don't have everything in place so I would be forever grateful to have you check on it tomorrow.

Carole -

the thing I would like to see most is participation so please post whatever works for you. If you feel it's on topic, I probably will too!!

Im not sure how to interpret the theme correctly:

1: A pics that has only a small part which has colour, otherwise it is B/W. Like shooting any (considerably small) thing against a black (or white) bacground.

2: A pics that has a very limited number of colours. In this case how much is the "limit" ?

3: A picture in which the colours are desaturated/pastel and have a limited appearance/impact.
Thanks in advance for the clarification.

In the last challenge Doug said he was disheartened with the "soft" comments we give here, so I suggested another system. The " " system. Basically, it's like this:

With * = No holds barred, brutal honesty, tough love, "give it to me", and such. However, no personal attacks or ridicule. All done with a sincere criticism and spirit.

Without * = Business as usual.

What do you think of this system, mates and matetts.

Ha ha, I like you already. And damn, your photos are excellent too (including from the last challenge).

What I envisioned from this challenge were images taken in full color but which, ultimately, only display a small amount of color. I guess maybe I should have called it Splash of Color or Hint of Color. But I didn’t want to deter anyone from posting bold, striking images either so thinking clean, elegant, and spare – like white rooftops against a shocking blue sky - would be alright as well. Either way, it’s minimal color. I was not thinking black and white and definitely no selective color. A partial desaturation? Maybe…. but I’d have to see the image.

Again though, like I said to Carole, participation is key. Post something you think is on topic and I will probably like it~!
Hope that helps to clarify and not confuse the issue.

do you mean by "no selective colors"? It's the name of one of many color-tools in Photoshop, but I get the feeling you really mean "No selective coloring"? Meaning "don't tamper with colors in selected parts of the image" - or something like that?

That would include partial desats, as I interpret it. All fine with me, just wondering.

I've already bought a bunch of tiny tomatos - and discarded the idea.

So at least I have something healthy to chew on while coming up with something better :)

I don't. Where the whole image is desaturated and then one part is played with so that it has color added. Call it what you like. That's the one I don't enjoy.
And I guess really I think these should be full color - at least to start with.
Does that explain better?

You mean the old system that users didn't find use for anymore?

I even had to remove that from the FAQ. Strictly put it was not a rule but a guideline of sorts.

I don't have the exact wording from the FAQ but emails sent to password requests also included this, which they don't anymore...

3. If you wish to receive detailed
comments/critiques of your entries, include an
asterisk ( ) in the title: e.g, Title .

I don't remember if we had a popular vote for it like we did on some other issues but please, let's not start this seesaw. It was there, there was discussion about taking it out, people seemed mostly vocal to get rid of it, it's gone. If we where to put it back I'm surely gonna put up a poll again ;)

Just to mention I personally didn't vote for having the ( ) guideline removed. But I don't mind honest raw critique left on my images either. So either way is fine by me. Overall I find our group pretty honest , and whenever someone does have something to say, suggestions on mentioing what you don't like, in a kind manner(like most do here already anyway) is in no way a negative comment. So bring them on.
