How big of a scam might this be?

I'm gullible lol, guy claims he got a new "setup" and didn't need the old one anymore. He said he used the camera but the charger and the battery is still in the packaging, not only that but look at the box.

I asked for photos of everything else, a long with asking if anyone had any offers, he said one dude was scrapping together $400... I don't think anyone would take that.

I've been looking for a new camera and it sucks that I find way too good to be true deals like this.

Expensive camera, laid out on a really cheap floor, who does that? Crushed box, looks like they raided a storage locker. Lots of that where I live. I'd give it a pass. :(

Tell him to ship it and you'll pay if you like it or will send it back if you don't.

Yeah, that box makes it look like it "fell off the back of the truck", if you get my drift.

99.9% chance it is a scam. (Maybe I need some more nines).

If you want a decent camera and are on a budget, your best bet is to shop for older models on the used market. There are many good options available. You likely don't need a $3,500 camera (even if you want one).

Defo a scam, what could he possibly be upgrading to? Also anyone that actually was a photographer would know the camera was worth much more than $900. The only way I’d buy this is in person in a public space.

If you’re on a budget and want FF, get a used A7iii. If you can’t afford an R5, you probably can’t afford RF lenses and third party Sony FE lenses are more affordable.

I only purchase items on Craigslist where the person is local to my community and I can validate them where they have a presence on LinkedIn

I would not touch this one

That same guy posts items with the exact same wording in a bunch of cities. Craigslist Denver also has some of those scammer's posts. Stay far, far, away.

I agree that its a little too good to be true and should be avoided, But the police wont do anything without probably cause or evidence. Even then, there is a high probability they wont do anything.

Makes sense, I asked the guy for more pictures and he avoided the question and just responded to a text of me asking if there was anyone else interested... he said someone was getting $400 to buy it... was very sketchy

Probably going to get a canon 5DMkIII, I've used it for awhile now at my school and thoroughly enjoy it.

He's apparently local, the only way I'd actually meet him is if I was near a police station and I had a buddy with me that I know who is currently an officer, I wouldn't want to go to something like this without help. 50% sure I would get robbed

I ask the poster for their full name, where they live, and where they work. I look up their name on LinkedIn to see if they are listed there. I see how many connections they have, where they worked, where they are working presently.

If a person selling something is unwilling to provide full name and where they live and work I just move on.

And if they provide the information and do not have a presence on LinkedIn I move on.

It's not a perfect system but it works for me.
