Well, I just couldn't wait any longer.....no announcement from Panasonic.

So I have just ordered........................the FZ1000.

Hopefully got a great deal and it arrives tomorrow.

Panasonic refurbished FZ1000 for £449.

I have been torn between the DMC G7 and the FZ1000 primarily for 4 k video but my problem was that I wanted a motorised zoom.

OK...I could have bought the motorised 14-42 and the 45-175 lenses for the DMC G7 but can guarantee that as my interest is shooting my daughter in showjumping etc, she would have been between 25-125 meaning a change of lens required all the time to follow the subject etc.

So, really looking forward to using the FZ1000 which I am sure will also become very much a carry round for photography as well, although I am lucky enough to have some lovely Nikon FF gear which I could never part with.

I guess the big question to friends here is could you give any advice re shooting 4k video with the camera and also any tips for initial setting up for photography please.

I would value very much any help and hope to be posting some photos and videos in the not too distant future.

Just a quick thank you again to all who were kind enough to offer help and advice when I originally posted asking for help in deciding which system to go for.

Best wishes to all

Ray

Hi Ray, I hope the FZ1000 serves you well, as I'm sure it will. One issue with 4k video is that it can loose focus while shooting. You can get over this by using manual focus, but that may not be satisfactory for the type of shooting you wish to do. There's no answer to this problem, as far as I'm aware, if you want to have continuous AF operating. I think all the Panasonic cameras have this issue and probably other makes as well. It also happened with my FZ200 when shooting video and that wasn't 4k. Sometimes the AF works without a hitch, but just be aware it can and will drift off, before coming back again.

Hope it works well for your needs Ray. So, tHe FZ2000 anouncement must now be imminent ;-)

Many thanks Rodger...
I am hoping that may not be the case as I currently use a Sony 1080p camcorder which locks on to the subject and never loses it...

Fingers crossed though.

Best wishes

Ray

Hi Stuart...

I guess I have instigated the announcement all have been waiting for...LOL

Just hope I do not have the focus issues referred to by Rodger...

Would be quite gutted.

Best wishes

Hi Ray, i did exactly the same a couple off months ago i waited and waited but took the plunge and have not regretted it , hope it works out OK for you, all the best, Steve

Hi Ray,

I'm sure you'll find the FZ1000 a capable and exciting camera, as I have for the past 18 months. The current price in Currys/PC World online is currently £589 so you got a good bargain.

Best wishes,

Tom

Thanks Tom...

Hopefully so...Panasonic refurbs are just like new so should be ok...

The annoying thing is that I could have ordered from abroad some time ago, brand new for even less BUT the current weakness of the £ means it is up again in price.....

More than happy to pay 450 though and I am sure it will be super...

ETA about 1 hour!!!

Best wishes

Just wondered of they should have been included please.

You can download the manual at Pana website or browse plus download it here:

Check your software version in the camera and update if needed (with empty card formatted in the camera beforehand).

Good luck,

Ray,

Care to tell me where you got your refurbished FZ1000? I've been looking for over a month and haven't seen one advertised.

Thanks

Dave
