New Mark III DR: 11.7 EVs

K-5 DR: 14.1 EVs

Surprising that C didn't up the ante in DR. Great for Low light, but strangely C left out AF assist light in the new Mark III!

At any given moment, there is a sort of all pervading orthodoxy, a general tacit
agreement not to discuss large and uncomfortable facts… Anyone who
challenges the prevailing orthodoxy finds himself silenced with surprising
effectiveness. - George Orwell

“It's not a matter of whether the war is not real, or if it is, Victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous. … The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over [the purported enemy], but to keep the very structure of society intact.” George Orwell, 1984

I'd much rather have extended DR than improved lowlight any day of the week.

Canon sensors always had the problem of scoring lower DR score on dxomark than Sony sensors. That's been the case since Sony released the first CMOS sensor back in 2007, first used in A700, D300, and then D90.

However, images speak for themselves though. The full-frame Canon has better images (DPR and IR studio shots) than the APSC cameras.

DxOMark gives a good idea about the sensor, not the overall camera performance. Nethertheless, sensorwise we have really great value with K-5, in Europe, France for exemple, you can buy actually 4 K-5´s for the price of 1 5DMkIII (800 Euro vs. 3200 Euro). Naturally, we don´t have FF (and Pentax really has to make an effort in this way!), and the Canon-glass may be better, but more expensive too. I´m proudly enjoing my two K-5´s (a black and a silver one), and am always puzzled by IQ, and the so practical small camera/system size (specially with the DA-Limiteds).

This is also true for video sensors

And the higher end F65 is supposed to be much better sensor than F3
