Help, On the pentax ist ds you can reset the shutter count, not on the EXIF file, but on the number writen to the SD card. I put an old Pentax ist ds SD card into my new K-X and the K-X picked up the old high count of the old DS card? I know how to correct this with my DS but how do I do this on the K-X! Thanks

Yes, there are a few ways. Format a memory card in the camera. On your computer copy to the DCIM folder any old image file which you have renamed to a starting point, e.g., IMGP0001.JPG. Put the card back in the camera and take a shot.

Should work...

Doug, Sorry it didn't work. My old DCIM files from my DS are "100PENTX" and they are not compatible with my K-X? Any other ideas?

Format a card in your new camera. Take picture. Take the card to your computer and rename the image on the card to IMGP0001.JPG. Back to to camera and try again.

The OP is asking for a change in "Shutter Count" but the responses seem to be focussing on changing the filename ... just wondering which is required?

As far as I'm aware the shutter count is stored within the camera and is inviolate, though doubtless the EXIF on any individual image file could be edited.

To have the camera re-start it's filename numbering, see the settings on p252 of the Operating Manual

The OP initially does say "Shutter Count" but then clarifies that he is not talking about the shutter count value that is in the EXIF but the count number that is used to generate the file names.
