Wow! Thanks for all the submissions. They really rolled in at the last moment. Looks like it'g going to be a difficult decision again!

You need not to have submitted to cast your votes. Let's just try to this with as little chaos as possible!

In keeping with our last competition, which Paul hosted so well, the rules will remain the same. In fact, the text of this post is identical (thanks Paul!) Only the dates have been changed, of course (to protect the innocent).

VOTING GUIDELINES

PLEASE - VOTE WITHIN THIS THREAD.

To make it easier to count the votes, PLEASE respond to the ORIGINAL post (click on 1st / original post and reply there, please do NOT place votes in a "reply" to a "reply")

You have 16 points total to work with for each gallery if you choose. (32 total for both galleries.)

The first & only "requirement"... Cast 4 points for your very favorite SINGLE photo in each gallery.

You can then award up to 12 more points in each gallery. You are not required to cast any or all of these additional 12 points...or to cast them the same way in each gallery. Vote according to your style preference.

Maximum points allowed per photo is 4. (At least one photo in each gallery must have a 4)

Honorable mentions & comments...as many as you would like.

To show appreciation for each other's work, in the traditional friendly spirit of the challenges, PLEASE VOTE FOR PHOTOS OTHER THAN YOUR OWN. None of the "header" photos are meant to receive any votes.

If you cast a series of "same point" votes, it really helps if you list them in "gallery order". We can tally them a lot easier that way...thank you for helping us by doing this.

Here is the format for voting:

Competition:

4pts_ Title by Artist
(X)pts_ Title by Artist (This repeats as you see fit)

Exhibition:

4pts_ Title by Artist
(X)pts_ Title by Artist (This repeats as you see fit)

Voting: from the creation of this thread until Thursday May 13th, 10 PM Fernandina Beach, FL . . . Hahira, GA . . . Yeehaw Junction, FL . . . New York City

Your chaotic moderator,

Hi Simon,

Just checked the rules and as I read them they only say that you must give at least one photo a 4. The remaining 12 points you can distribute as you want. That is, you can give 4 points each to four photos if you want.

"4 pts to 1st place: You must assign 4 points to the picture that you most like in each gallery. This is the minimum requirement for your votes to count.

12 remaining pts/gallery: Distribution of the other 12 points in each gallery is optional, but strongly encouraged. You can award any combination of 1, 2, 3 or 4 points to other pictures, as long as your votes (including your initial 4pt vote for your favourite picture) do not exceed 16 points total in either gallery"

claudio and I had this discussion in the voting for challenge #5.
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=8317308

My feelings are also that the implication of the first line means you should award 4 points to only one photo but claudio felt that the last line allowed multiple 4 point awards. I had suggested that we change the ambiguity to specify it one way or the other. Since it was allowed in #5 (and #6), I feel it should be allowed in (#7). We definitely should change the wording for the next challenge.
Paul, the rules state that you must only give 4 points to a Single
shot, not to more than one, please re cast your votes.

Many thanks

My interpretation might be wrong, and what confuses me is what is said about the remaining 12 points. I quote from the rules:

"Distribution of the other 12 points in each gallery is optional, but strongly encouraged. You can award any combination of 1, 2, 3 or 4 points to other pictures, as long as your votes (including your initial 4pt vote for your favourite picture) do not exceed 16 points total in either gallery"

It actually says that any combination of 1, 2, 3 or 4 points can be given to other pictures, or do I get it wrong?

Fred
Fred, i've just checked the rules again

"The first & only "requirement"... Cast 4 points for your very
favorite SINGLE photo in each gallery." Paul has assigned 4 points
to 2 shots in each of the galleries

Unless i understood it wrongly, sorry.

if you read the thread following http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=8317308

claudio and I had the same discussion. No one joined in with any opinions so claudio made the decision as moderator (as he should have). Since it went that way in the previous few challenges, I would suggest to Bruce that double 4 points be allowed. But I feel it's his call.

Then let's start another thread to nail it down for the future... Let's cut out the CHAOS! LOL.
Well, i'm confused, the word Single is all in upper case indicating
that it can only be single, the last line, at least to me, is a
contradiction to the first line.

I'm open to some help on this one. and this may not be the thread
to do it in. sorrr for starting something.

The official rules sanctioned by the moderator are those on the Challenges rules page. I adjusted the rules on behalf of the moderator and posted the currect version there with his blessing. His intent is that 4 points can be awarded to as many photos as you want up to the limit of 16 points total per gallery.

Cheers,
John

That being the case, i think they may need a little tinkering as both myself and Umbro10 have found it hard to figure it out .

I just read the opening line, and last line i thought was saying one picture in gal must have 4 points, rather than that you have stated.

I'll go with you both of you John and Umbro10, sorry for any hassles i may have created or started.

No more posts for this here, lets start the voting again.

If that is the intent, I might suggest that the CAPS in SINGLE be taken out in the mean time. We can still discuss the issue in another thread I will start.
