Learning how to do long exposures. Shot this with an X100F using the built in 3 stop ND filter and a B+W 10 stop ND filter, 50 second exposure. Had to hold the tripod and the wind was howling from the ocean.

Shot on Cape Cod looking east over the Atlantic.

Recently sold a lot of equipment (Fuji 23 f.14, 56 f1.2 X-E1 and an X100) and bought the X100f and this is the only camera I took on this trip. Not taking a lot of equipment frees me from making gear decisions and lets me concentrate on just shooting.

Very nice job on the long exposure... not easy under those conditions at all. A little C&C as requested. I’d have allowed for a bit more foreground and less horizon from a composition standpoint. Also, a sunbather in the foreground or ship in the background as a point of interest would have been awesome. Love the smoky effect with the water... very cool.

Agree about foreground

This shoot is very close to some minimalist paintings from Magritte and introduction of outer elemnts should be made with a lot of caution with respect to miniùmalisù and graphism

Beautiful. You are doing everything right, including camera choice. +100

Thanks for the comments. I was going for a minimalist effect so I only wanted a few elements in it.

Sure. All depends on what the OP had in mind. I would expect that everyone might react differently, which I guess is a good definition for art in general.
What is art opens up a whole can of worms! I would not want to go there in a discussion...

I love that strong line in the middle of the frame. Well done
Thanks. I debated about this in my head and thought that it improved the composition. Rarely would I shoot with a dividing line dead center in the frame.

Thanks. The X100f simplifies shooting as one is stuck with one FOV.

Then I think you accomplished your goal. As with any C&C, you'll have to filter any comments concerning composition with your own preferences and your specific goals for the shot. My comments obviously were strictly as an observer and of course would be from my own perspective, not yours.

I like it, Zack.

It has a surreal quality in its minimalism. Any figure or other point of interest would be a distraction.

It also reminds me of one of my recent shots -- from a compositional point of view.

An interesting shot. Very abstract in many ways. I'm wondering what it would look like with the sandy foreground devoid of any distinguishing marks.

On the one hand the absence of any identifying marks in the sand would hide what the photo is and would make for a real abstract.

On the other hand, 3/4 of the photo is abstract. And the only identifying piece is the foreground.

Not sure which I'd go for.

This is a really nice shot. I like the long exposure effect on the water while the detail in the sand remains. However, the relative proportion of the sky makes it feel unbalanced to me. There is also some very pretty green in the water that you might consider bringing out a bit more.

I tried cropping it in LR to have the bottom of the shot be just the milky surf but did not like it. What you see is exactly how I composed it in camera.

Maybe try reducing the sky to about 1/3 of the frame?

I thought about doing that but somehow the horizon being dead center seems to work. Sky above, earth below.
