Is my cmos sensor going bad or what? Check these pics out. They have been cropped 100% with no modifications at all. They where converted using Breze Browser to 8bit Tiff. Sorry about the size of these files. I wanted them to be as pure as possible.

2358.tif is shot at iso 1600

2361.tif is shot at iso 800

2368.tif is shot at iso 800

all shot with the 50 1.4 @ f2

Is it back to Canon with this camera or what?

Not sure what this would be.

My only (hopefully constructive) observation is that in #2358 it looks like a moire pattern, usually caused by the interaction of two patterns. (Such as when you overlap two window screens.)

Not sure what would cause this in your situation. One "pattern" would be the pixels on the D30s sensor. Was there any other "pattern" involved -- i.e. shooting through some kind of screen or filter or such?

I have two D30 and I tried few dark area shots at ISO 1600 and I could not produce it.

No filters at all. Just the 50 1.4.

I checked my settings and found I had the EV pushed to +1. I put it back to 0 but the banding is still there. Man am I worried. Is it just my camera or will all D30's do this after 20,000+ picutres? I sure hope not. I feel this banding is very similar to the 1D banding. Is this a software issue or hardware?

Well it looks like bad news for me. I took more shots at lower light at iso 1600. There is a strip going along the longer plane of the sensor 1/4 the way up from the bottm and about 1/4 of the sensor in hieght. The banding shows up along this strip only. I bought the camer early this year. I hope the warranty covers this type of thing.

OMG!!!
Banding!!!!!
In a D30!?!?!

What's wrong with Canon?

why did they release such an unacceptable piece of junk on the world?!?!?!

I'm sure it's just corporate greed and they knew all along they had a problem.

This is COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

Can you imagine?.......banding?!?!

Oh, the horrors of it all.

Oh, I must immediately switch to the superiority of a Nikon.

And to think they unleashed the 1D.

I feel so depressed.

In almost a years use this banding just started showing up today when I took low light picture of the kids. This means its a new problem that has just shown up. Up until now I have had flawless performance from my D30. God I hope you were kidding with your post.

Other wise if you have nothing helpful to post please don't. I'm really worried about this. I can't afford to replace my D30!

Hmmm. Believe me - I've shot lots of photos using 800, 1600 ISO on my D-30 and i had no such problems at all. No stripes, only fully random noise.
I think that ur camera needs replacement with correct one.

This is exactly the same kind of banding I am getting in some photos. It doesnt have to do with high ISO in my case. I see it mostly in the 75-300 lens. I am not sure if you shot this in the vertical position or not but my banding runs horizontically across the long dimension.

Rob:

First of all, I'm so sorry that this worrisome symptom has cropped up for you, most unfortunate!

Would you consider contacting Canon Tech support, reporting this exactly as you have to us, and seeing what they have to say? Sometimes they will do a repair gratis, even if the unit is slightly out of warantee. Cannot hurt to try, anyway,. At least you will know what you are up against.

All the VERY best of luck with this!

Where did you buy your D30?
I got it at BestPriceAudioVideo. I have gotton other cameras there with no problems. Because of the deal with extended warrenty and microdrive I sent my forms in right away so have to deal with Canon. I have already called them once and got a tech guy who although nice knew nothing. My camera also has the underexposure problem. Because the D30 is new to me I also wanted to test it good and run questions by other owners before squawking too loudly.-- http://www.pbase.com/galleries/sasc
