I just took the camera out of the box and the camera is not focusing or am I getting the little green light on the right side of the camera. The green flash shows up but thats about it. The batteries are charged !
I have never had a SLR before.
Thanks

are important here. If hyou are too close to your subject with a particular lens it won't focus. That distance varies considerably depending on which lens is attached.

nifty,

You're in Connecticut and "just got" your camera. It's a bit dark where you are right now and it's doubtful that at 6:40pm on January 18, 2007 in Connecticut you have sufficient light to focus on anything if you're outdoors.
If indoors, you'll need some auxillary light.
Also, make sure that your lens is seated properly on the camera body.

Take some time and go over your User Guide (Owner's Manual) and, perhaps, you'll get better results.

When in doubt, poke it with a stick.

you are installing the lens on the camera, and when you are using it,

DON'T press the lens release button...

That's one of the things that gives everyone trbl when you first start using the camera...

Why won't some people take even a little bit of time to find out
about something that they have just bought?

Imagine if this happened with cars ????
I don't know how many times I see people driving around at night with only their daytime driving lights on (meaning the rear lights are off)...they don't have the intelligence to read that they still have to turn on their nighttime driving lights at night (what a concept).
