Such crisp, vivid images. I sometimes think I am getting there, and then I see a website like this.

Then I start to feel like my pictures stink, and I will never get there.

Photo Gods, please help me!

I have cable and it wasn't too bad, thanks for trying.

I am getting tired of seeing the same flash site design for every photographer and their grandmothers though!

While she excells at natural light, her studio shots are quite flat. In my opinion, she would benefit from more dramatic lighting with more shadows, especially in the maternity section. Regarding the website, it's nice. I like the Enya background music. I, too, am on DSL and it seems to load relatively fast.

I also feel this way occasionally. One thing I noticed, though. She appears to be what I call a "society" photographer. In other words rich, vain folk whose kids end up in suicide wards. All the photos are of models which is the first big red flag. Don't believe everything you see.

MIss Molly,

It looks like the photos have been bumped up in saturation and contrast to me. I like the way they look, but they do look a little unreal.

I very much dislike the speed of Flash web sites.

A lot of it looks like she's really good at the PP. Of course, it also helps having captured some amazing photographs to play with. There are a few pictures that look like the white of the eyes are enhanced a little, but it's not overly obvious. I could be wrong and it is probably just my imagination. She also seems to make use of a reflector in many of the natural light shots. BTW.. her portrait pricing is quite competitive!

I've never really paid much attention to prices before. Is that really what people are charging? I'm not a pro and know very little about the business side of photography. But to me it seems like a lot. Obviously there's a high overhead to the business, especially the equipment, of course. And that's not taking into account one's knowledge & expertise. Still, somewhere I think I missed the boat!

$95/sitting fee. What does that translate into in terms of time? One hour to set up, one hour to take the photos? Roughly $45-50/hr. Though by the looks of it, she's spending considerable time at Photoshop. Yet $15/4x6 with a minimum of 20 is $300. Add any enlargements, and it's straight to the bank!

I'm going to think about charging for my work from now on. Are [good] professional photographers rich?

The secret:

Subject is well focused and well lit. And, probably using full frame SLR/DSLR and/or large format cameras. I love my Canon 10D, but the darker and smaller viewfinder makes accurate focus a challenge. The Angle Finder C IS NOT a help!

I agree with the other comments. Nice, but well set up.

Overall I agree, a bit too high key for my taste.

She's a natural talent. I agree with a previous poster about the studio lighting a bit too bright (for my personal taste of course, where Im a believer of the "darker is better" philosophy)

But she trasnmits a quite deep feeling in all her captures, amazing. I can feel the intensity of the moment, and those portraits are touching the soul (of both the subject and the viewer).

About the sharp images she knows how to process and how to balance the light (daylight and outdoors in particular).

good photography

That's a difference between these 2 photographers. I don't think one can distinguish a particular camera system, especially at these small sizes of images and degree of post processing. But they are very nice images.

It certainly has Enya's style. Regardless of whether it's Enya or another musician, I suppose it would be an infrigement unless she (the photographer) herself composed the music. Of course, maybe she has obtained permission to use it. There's no way we can really know.

Also, I hear background music on many websites. Does that mean everyone is breaking the law? How does that differ from the radio, or playing background music at a party?

I love the pics.

I am not a Pro, so let me a dump question. How does she achieve such a soft well balanced nature lighting outdoor?
Is she just using a super big reflector(s) & PP? Thanks.

Steven

This is an example of good photography. The crispness comes from proper focusing and shooting at a proper shutter speed handheld so there is no motion blur.

The vividness comes from good lighting, attention to backgrounds, and proper post production (white balance, color saturation, contrast).

There are many small skill sets that go into producing this kind of work. As in all photography.

You must devote time to each aspect of photography until all the elements come together at the time of a shoot.

As for your comment about feeling bad when you see this kind of work...

after 10+ years of professional photography experience, I feel that way too when I see good work. But it doesn't put me off, it encourages me to continue learning and growing.

One of the things about photography that I love is that regardless of how good I get, there is always room to grow.

Don't get discouraged, get busy.

Choose an area of weakness in your work and make a concious effort to improve in that area.

Hi! I am ipressed with these pictures and sharpness. What kind of lens do you think she migh be using, what aperture? Mayber also there is some of the secret?

Peteris

She uses fill reflector(s) and or mono-lights(s) and if necessary a diffusion screen to soften direct sunlight.
