... and no ideas from SONY?

a05274000a46482783d21ba1b096db09.jpg.png

ChatGPT was clearly challenged, but maybe the proportions are halfway ok?

Any ideas as to why SONY doesn't play? After all, they had the RX1s ...

I am aware of the fact that the idea of an RX1 successor isn't new. What is new-ish however is the fact that there appears to be such a high demand, provided you believe that the whole scenario around waiting lists isn't just a part of the game! First for the X1001-VI, then the Q, Q2, Q3 and now the GFX100RF and the Sigma BF. The BF has a few advantages, not a single prime and also no EVF ... a difficult one, but maybe some of the RX1 shooters would still consider this one? Dunno.

ChatGPT learning??
ChatGPT learning??

And whilst I am at it, what would compel ME to get one?
  • If possible the Zeiss 35/2 Sonar or similar, but not necessarily sharper!!!!!
  • 7-stop IBIS
  • A7RV LCD
  • EVF with a minimum 0.7 magnification (there must be a way right?) and IF possible (!!!!!) an angled EVF like the GFX or those RX1 attachments.
  • those fabulous multi-function wheel/button combos like on the Q2 would be great!
  • 1/32.000s // 4 minute automatic shutter speeds
  • crops with an option of a RAW write, like the APS-C versions
And maybe some new stuff??
  • In-camera (superimposed frame lines??) landscape mode(s) e.g. a 16mm equivalent with help-lines to make this happen.
  • Olympus light-writing long exposure
  • super-imposed multiple shot feature, could be a feature within itself, like Jonas Rask's examples taken with the GFX100RF
  • multiple aspect ratios with RAW writing options
I know I know, you can crop in post, this has been said multiple times before, but it can also be nice to actually create something for a certain target size? e.g. for the Fuji paper at the local lab that prints in 8x10 format?? 5x7?? 1x1??

My preference would be to re-introduce some playfulness. Not crazy stuff, like miniature simulations but some stuff professionals would use!

And me ;-)

Gimme the Leica logo and a1 sensor, then I'd sell my other kidney for it.

Sure, but if you look at my list(s), there are a few items that don't feel premium. You could replace the Q3 with an A7CR, 60Mpx, but not targeting the same market. The experience also not quite the same, I tried an A7CII a couple of weeks ago, a nice camera, small, but not that much smaller than my A7RV, a surprise, I should have known from camerasize, but a different impression when held outside a shop. I found the Q2 EVF acceptable in a good way, but found the C EVF pushing a bit too hard. Has been mentioned before, I know, but premium includes the EVF in my book. The X100 has the hybrid viewfinder, so gets away with that in a direct comparison.

Also, those playful items, Jonas Rask used the formats on the GFX100RF and the multiple exposures, both items you could do in post, but that's not quite the same thing.

Since cameras are tools for a creative process, there's some space left for premium compacts to shine, the Q2 can do in-body time-lapse videos you can play directly on your 65" or your Leica App.

No way. Are you ready to pay $100,000 for a unit? You can't fool Sony users by a fake Panasonic camera with ancient AF-C and a Leica sticker for $6500, like the Q is. It wouldn't work, very low sales for such price.

Basically A7C II + Sony 40/F2.5 G or Sigma 35/F2 or Samyang 35/F1.8 is already available. Take it or not.

No RX1 successor, it is dead. RX10 is dead. RX100 VII is still alive, but ...
