Hey Guys.

I just purchased a Canon A80 and have been snapping photos as much as humanly possible. I would lilke to propose a thread where we can all share a photo a day taken from our A80's.
I'll start with one of my first outdoor shots.

If you right click on your picture and choose "Properties" you can highlight and copy the direct URL of your picture, then paste it in the reply area of your message... This will allow the forum to view the picture directly in the web browser instead of being directed to another page.

Here is the picture via direct link from your post above... It's very nice.

I must admit that I am sometimes very surprised at the images that people choose to post in threads like this. While I have seen quite a few images in this thread that were simply breathtaking, there have been more than a couple were, I've literally asked myself, "Why are they posting this?"

I'm sure that someone will think I'm being obnoxious, but I am being serious and honest. When I look through picture threads I expect to see images that someone has thought was a representative of their photographic skill. In many cases (not just this thread) what I see are images that seem to be posted because they were what the poster had available, or were the most recently shot, or had special meaning to the poster that the rest of us don't have the background to truely appreciate in the same light.

If you think I'm being a jerk, don't I'm not trying to say that anyones a bad photographer, I'm just trying to convince you to show us your best work. Show us the stuff that invites commentary.

Stand out from the crowd.

This is not a contest. Threads such as this are meant to show the camera's ability in simple point-n-shoot situations. Before I purchased my camera I appreciated such threads very much. You can better judge the camera in my opinion when not looking at 'art' shots made in ideal conditions by someone who knows exactly what they are doing. After all, what will the pictures my wife and kids who have no real interest in photography look like?

The problem is that I too am looking to possibly buy a A80. However from the images in a thread like this, I can tell that the camera is capable of incredible shots, and dull, lifeless, and out of focus shots as well. That is really not useful information to use when deciding to buy a camera, as pretty much any camera can deliver that range. However, when we see peoples best work, we have a better idea what the camera is capable of.

I'm not suggeting that this should be a contest, but that rather when posting an image, you should have a good reason for posting it. When I see a out of focus image on a thread here, I think "Wow, that is the best image they can get out of this camera, maybe I should look at a camera that does a better job of judging exposure or has better autofocus, etc.

Uuhhmm....every camera has the potential for producing dull, lifeless and out of focus shots. Unless I'm wrong, its the combination of the photographer's skill, luck and the camera's ability which raises the possibility of making incredible shots. IMHO, if u are persuaded not to buy the A80 because u saw some bad shots taken from it, u may be discounting u're own ability to get the best out of the camera. While good equipment certainly helps, its still the photographer.

Like I said, what the camera is capable of depends much on the person handling. Besides, i dont think the people who post their pics here have any obligation to post their best shots just to convince people to buy the same camera that they have. They may post their pics to elicit criticism (constructive ones hopefully), praise, or for any possible reason u can think of. Last I checked, there ain't no limitation on the reasons for posting.

I certainly hope that u dont find urself in a situation where u posted what, in ur own opinion, is your best work and someone commented: "why the heck did u pose such a picture? What were u thinking?!!" One guy's best pic may be another guy's deleted image.

If u judge a camera based on a "best foot forward" philosophy, u may not be getting the whole picture. If u really think that a pic posted in this thread is really bad, maybe u could e-mail the guy personally what u think he did wrong. U may end up improving his skills and he may even thank u for it.

By the way, I got an A80 recently. Got some really good pics (in my own terribly biased opinion) and deleted an alarmingly large number of bad ones. Hope to post some here soon so that someone can say, "the nerve of the guy to post that kind of a pic". Either that or some helpful tips from Isabel, forbes and other guys here who may think that my pic is bad but was diplomatic enough to not say so directly.

I'm quite offended. While I'm picking photographs that to me look great, my opinion is not so blinkered as to think that there are not improvements that can be made I was hoping to get constructive critcism, encouragement and knowledge imparted to me to help me achieve better results. If I'm not going to get that encouragement I might as well call it quits now. I'm so disappointed :( everyone so far has been wonderful. The last thing that a budding photographer needs is negativity.
