I love shooting with my A7RV on Silent Shutter at events (of course flash will not fire in Silent Shutter Mode). Recently I shot an event where it was desired to not use flash. It's amazing how well a modern camera deals with these conditions.

I was totally pleased with the results. The facility had two types of overhead lights and light from side windows (mixed lighting required some color correcting in post).

I used a slow shutter speed because of low light, you can see how the ISO fluctuated and was generally high but A7RV handled it beautifully. I could have opened the aperture, but I generally wanted to maintain some DOF. Below chart shows camera settings and fluctuating ISO for this event (Exposure Plot):

Unfortunately, I would not post photos from this very private event (client would not approve). Client and others loved the photos.

Just curious, with electronic shutter, did you get any issues with distorted subjects (assuming some of your subjects were not totally static)?

Out of 150 images, I only had a couple blurred (motion blur because of slow shutter speed but still acceptable content). Actually, the blur added to the creative look. Generally, there was not a lot of fast movement. I would not recommend using Silent Shutter if the event had fast movement / action. In the event of fast motion in the scene, I have the C1 button programed to toggle between Mechanical and Silent Shutter. I shoot a lot of BIF and obviously would not use Silent Shutter because of the distorted subject.

I have another event scheduled in a few days (similar environment and activity). I will shoot with Silent Shutter and no flash. The client of the upcoming event viewed results of this event and requested similar results.

Are they really quiet events or is there another reason you're going with silent/e-shutter?

Yes, there really are quiet events where the sound of a shutter can draw attention or be annoying / not desired.

I would say in most cases with a silent shutter the client and guest didn't even realize I took a shot. When the client reviewed the images after the event, they comment they hardly knew I was there (no sound, no flash).

There were a half dozen group / posed shots the client requested (mechanical shutter would be fine, also could have used flash for group shots but did not need).
