A1ii jpeg and raw files not playing nice with Mac Photos

Mac Photos does not seem to recognize raw files from the new Sony a1 Mark II. When you ask it to Use Raw as Original, it does not switch to the raw file.

Also, when you mark a jpeg as "Favorite" it is not displayed in the Favorites on the left menu bar. However, if you filter Imports by Favorites you can see them. But it means that there are two sets Favorites in two different places.

Hopefully, it will take Apple only a few weeks to fix these issues. Oh well, at least I got the camera fairly early.

By the way, I am not a new user, but I had to re-register because I had my registration under my old Cox email address. Cox went out of the email business, and transferred their users to Yahoo. I prefer not to use Yahoo.

Apple usually updates in a couple months between releases. So wait patiently i guess.

No problems with Adobe camera RAW.

In fact I am very impressed, it's the first time that I have got a new camera and been able to process its RAW files immediately.

Oh.. and also Luminar Neo works with the new RAW files. Credit where credit is due. Luminar Neo seems to be a rising star IMHO and it continues to impress me.

DxO is so far quite disappointing in this regard however.

I bet that Adobe and others are using AI to assist in getting RAW conversion out fast. Also I'm sure that the manufacturers are getting that it benefits them to release RAW files early under non-disclosure.

It's the second time for me - the A9 III support was rolled out in December 2023, while the cameras arrived in January 2024. But yes, I agree - getting Adobe Camera RAW support before the cameras arrives is really nice - I hope to see that trend continuing!

This is how it used to be with all RAW processing software. Used to be months before we got support for RAW from anything but the manufacturer's software (and sometimes even that was a bit slow to arrive!). Then it shortened to weeks.

Apple is fairly conservative - I guess they will roll support for the A1 II out early in 2025.

Meanwhile - Adobe Camera RAW included support in their December update...

I do wonder how different the files really are from the original A1 given that it's even the same sensor.

My guess is not very much.

And yes DxO has really disappointed me in this case as I do like to use PureRAW.

I had to wait quite a while for Apple Photos to be updated for my A7CR raws, several months.

Adobe Camera Raw was updated more quickly.

As a Mac user since 1984,it's sad to say this...but if you expect Apple to be the last software on the planet to support new RAW file types you will never be disappointed.

Apple Photo is fine for iPhone photos. Sony Alpha 1 II deserves better.

I am having the same problem. The A1ii RAW files are not recognized by Apple’s iPhoto platform. This is the case for my MacBook Pro, IPad Pro and iPhone 15 pro max. I have no trouble moving RAW images from my Sony A7R5 into the iPhoto platform. The RAW files from the A1ii are also not liked by Adobe LR on my MacBook Pro or IPad Pro. These RAW files import as blank gray images when displayed in any tile format. Once I select one image in LR, it will change from gray to the image as taken by the A1ii. I hope this A1ii issue is resolved quickly. I did notice in the Apple support section of its website that the original A1 RAW format is supported. The A1ii is not listed. The A7R5 is listed. I believe this list of supported RAW formats (by camera manufacturer) was last updated in September, 2024.

Just have to wait for A1II to be supported. Happens all the time with new camera releases.

If you can't wait there is a method to hack the files with a hex editor to make it look like an A1 instead of A1II

One workaround people have used previously is to edit the camera info in the raw files to a supported camera model with a similar sensor.

Apple sure are taking there time, its now May 2025 and .arw files from a Sony A1 ii are still not supported
I agree. And since i’m traveling and wanting to easily see some of the photos taken on my ipad I’m downloading the RAW and backup HEIF files unto my ipad. I then have to find the starred photos and add them to photos. I don’t want to take the time to use LR or PS mobile while traveling. Anyone have an easier way?

When I bought this ipad pro Apple had a photo of the pro connected to a Sony camera on their sight. gave me false confidence that they wi]ould be supporting a professional workflow. NOT really.
