finally got around to doing a pixel shift astro shot, i wish that ricoh would update firmware to allow longer than 30 seconds

so this shot is 30sec pixel shift @1200mm f6.5 800iso Guided on an ioptron ieq45

Sorry about the low res

regards Brad

Wow!

Orion's nebula, right?

I love the colors!

Nice photo! Have you tried setting your camera in Bulb mode, then using a wired trigger and timer to achieve 30 sec. + exposures?

Excellent!

Stunning. What lens are you using?

I finally had some modest success at astrophotography while in the Sahara Desert last month. I emphasize the word "modest" after seeing this photograph. Don't tempt me to ditch Astrotracer and get that fancy iOptron 9000 thingy!

Thanks for posting.

Really beautiful, especially the colours and dynamic range. But you say 'sorry low res', while the pixel shift is about increasing the resolution. Can we get a high-resolution version as well, or a crop from it ?

Most Impressive.

Brad,

I'm interested in your "low resolution" comment, because the resolution at 100% looks better than almost anything else we'd look at -- at 100%. You must mean compared to a Questar which most of us probably don't have. :-)

The color is especially interesting. I didn't know you could get something like that with 1200 mm -- but of course you can't without something like your ioptron I suppose.

Out of curiosity, what level Questar would you need to buy to get better resolution?

cool

Then we know that the pixel shift is stable even at long exposures.

BTW - can the Astro Tracer mode compete with the ieq45?

I mean that the site only allows a fairly small file to be uploaded the original is rather large , it is shot through a vixen vc200l 1800mm with a telecompressor bringing it back to 1200mm

Great picture for sure, but did you compare with and without pixel shift to see if there's a real improvement ?

Yes, that would be nice to see.

Isn't this always easy, using the DCU software? The labeling is obscure, but I believe one does this by turning PX OFF while processing the image in DCU (regardless of camera setting), and that extracts one off the 4 PS images for processing. I used this recently to deal with uncontrolled subject movement.

Thanks for the star pictures and follow-up, OP.
