After some serious A/B testing between my 420 and OM10...can't help but love the overall feel of the OM way way better...quality of the build aside, it's just a more pleasing photography experience...the feel of the focus, the split prism, the camera weight, view finder, the film advance...overall its just more organic to me. Anybody else prefer the film experience? No need to compare results, just the experience...

I play 'mix-n-match', lol!

I have just got a whole lot of Fotodiox OM to 4/3rds adapters for my collection of OM lenses (see profile). I have had the Olympus MF-1 for about 20 months, but my OM lenses did not like to share ;-( ... .

I am finding a whole new joy in using my OM lenses on both my E-1 and E-510 bodies. For me, there is no problem focusing on either body; but the E-1 is better for this, of course.

I haven't picked up the adapter yet, but can't wait to open a whole new realm of possibilities!

Gidday again Kii

new realm of possibilities!
A mate ordered a six-pack from Fotodiox in the States. Took about a week for delivery (USPS), and the cost was A$31 each. We each took three. We are going to make another purchase from them, as another mate also wants some, and JB and I also want some more. I want to have one on each lens, so that I never have to "hunt" for one!

I have done a mini-review of my thoughts about these adapters here:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1022&thread=32118196

The Fotodiox adapters are far cheaper than the MF-1 (which costs A$199 here in Oz!!).

Apart from having to make a shim to go between the adapter and the OM lens for one (as it was a bit loose on all my lenses), they are good quality and fit the cameras and lenses well.

I understand what you're saying about OM. I was invested in Minolta and skipped over the film AF era completely, so my move from MF SLR to Oly DSLR is similar to those coming from OM.

I have a fairly complete kit of Minolta X-700's with winders, primes, zooms, flashes, etc. This was the latest most advanced manual focus SLR Minolta produced (launched in 1982 I think) incorporating TTL flash and other electronic advancements, yet the user interface is strictly traditional dials and buttons. Ergonomically superb. Smooth silky operation including lens rings, etc. Big bright viewfinder. The user experience is just superb, especially with the primes.

I miss that and have fun going out with these once in a while. I need to hook up my scanner to see how effectively I can convert the images to digital.

I'm glad you share my sentiment! Those X-700's look like some nice cams! Never tried them but after reading the specs, look like they would offer that same Oly OM manual experience! I may have to place some bids on ebay ;)...over this past weekend, I A/B'd some more just to make sure the whole "feel" thing was consistent and sure enough, my feelings remain the same. With the dslr I felt like I was just getting through the motion of photography, while with the OM I was actually breathing and enjoying the whole experience. Maybe it's just a phase , but theres a reason these old cams were and continue to be popular. ;)
