7hi: where to buy in EU?

Hello folk,

I am waiting since october for a 7hi I ordered from a German
e-commerce site but noone seems to be able to tell me when it will
be available, so I just wonder if someone could tell where in the
European Union one is supposed to find a 7hi available with a good
pricing, via web or otherwise.
Which site did you order it from?
I am planning to order it from ny-camera.de very soon. Was it that site?

There is a site in the netherlands that has it cheaper.
http://www.marxenschuuring.nl/

(Note that this site doesn't include the EU sales tax which is 19% in nl, whereas the ny-camera.de site does include tax - it's still cheaper in nl though)

But the Netherlands doesn't seem to adhere to the EU directive that dictates 2yr warranties.

That is, buy it in Germany (or Italy) you get a 2 year warranty - in the Netherlands only 1 year.

This is discussed in another thread:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=3757943

BTW did you order it COD?
Are you able to cancel the order?

Let me kwow how you get on.

Try this http://shops.shopping-online.de/cgi-bin/partner/rwws4you.vrnrlinz/365/shop.pl?PAGE=frameset.html . The acual site is http://www.photo-porst-neuwied.de . The price is relatively good, they were very kind, accepted COD and even was ready to provide me with a tax-free check (that was important for me). Heard an excellent oppinion about Photo-porst.

There are several other on-line shops in Germany and Austria that state they have D7Hi in stock - will check at the home computer. Otherwise the availability at the normal shops is restricted, I believe.
I haven't purchased the camera, just sharing my findings.
Good luck!

Hey wiren,

I´ve ordered my 7Hi at end of september at a german shop - the 7Hi still hasn´t arrieved. Today I´ve heard that 50(!) D7Hi will arrive at Germany at the beginning of december. That´s nearly nothing. If I should wait for another 4 or 8 weeks, I will cancel my order and wait for a Dimage 8 or whatever. How can the industry complain about a bad situation of the world market, if they can´t produce and sell, what people ask for?

No. I am in contact with NYC too, I asked them to mail me should a 7hi arrive, but since then they did not write me a line. I wrote to some others german providers, noone replied, noone seems to have the hi in stock.

I have a VAT number and do not pay VAT, whatever the percentage, which in Germany happens to be 16% while in Italy 20%.

Uhm...
BTW did you order it COD?
It that stands for Cash On Delivery, yes. In Germany "nachnahme".
Are you able to cancel the order?
I do guess I am, for I can send back the thing within the first 14 days from delivery for whatever reason, so I think I can cancel the order before even receiving the thing as well.
Let me kwow how you get on.

I do not think a have many things to do, just wait... seems like Minolta is not delivering many 7hi to EU at least.

I do not know what to say... just incredible. I just wonder if behind all this delay there might be some problems with the first machines Minolta produced... well, we will see. Anyway, you are right, this is not the best way to encourage costumers to spend their money!

Hey wiren,

the reason might be problems with the production of the 7Hi (I haven´t heard about any problems from users) or the production of a Dimage 8 or D-SLR. Maybe Minolta is just overwhelmed with the effective demand of the 7Hi... Who knows... But nevertheless the actual situation is very dissatisfying...

If I ordered from Photo-Porst, as I was intended...
So I'm looking at Photo-Port's website.
I don't see an international phone number, what's the country code?
And do they ship internationally (to Portugal)?
And do their prices include tax (1329 euros for 7hi)?

And do they really have it in stock?

thx

In most of sites situation is: 7i -> in stock; 7Hi -> in order ... maybe Minolta is just trying to sell out all 7i in stock before making 7Hi fully available?

Too bad!

ps: I'm looking for 7Hi too, but I've decided to wait till january, as Christmas' gifts rush keeps high prices and few offers.

It was let's say 2-3 weeks ago. I was looking for on-line store in Germany (because of the 2-year warranty and because I'been so many times there). I came to them via http://www.guenstiger.de . It was stated D7Hi is on stock and still is. From http://www.photo-porst-neuwied.de/ go to 'Hier gelangen Sie zum Online-Shop' - upper left and then 'shop' - 'digital cameras'. The actual page is http://shops.shopping-online.de/cgi-bin/partner/rwws4you.vrnrlinz/365/shop.pl?PAGE=frameset.html

I dopped them a letter and they answered immediately that D7Hi is in stock, I can pay COD and they will provide me with a tax-free check (I reside outside EU). Then I asked them about the warranty and something else, do not remember what, and the answer was: "You can order the camera if you want it". That cooled me down. I will not be surprised if that was the usual story: in stock - order - wait - we will see... It is for sure Photo-Porst is not a garage-based enterprise, but...
Hope this helps.

As many other here I will appreciate any info concerning the availability and purchase of D7Hi. Currently I rely on a friend of mine in America... Have to wait unfortunately.

Reviving this thread after 2 weeks.

So I sent the guy at ny-camera.de a mail asking him about availability of the 7HI.

The guy I have corresponded with is called Graham - he's also the guy I spoke with on the phone when I first confirmed their price and the fact that they have a 2yr warranty.

Thus far Graham has been helpful and friendly on the phone and fairly responsive to email with about a 2 day reply lag.
True to form, he replied two days later:
  • "We don't have the camera in stock, but we expect it in a couple of weeks"
  • "We have a few back-ordered, but we expect the next delivery to cover all back-orders."
I confirmed the price: Euro 1369 + 31 shipping to Portugal and COD charge.

Note that the price includes tax. The tax in Germany is 16%. The good thing about this (if you are paying the tax) is that if you are buying inside the EU then you pay the tax in the country you buy from. So it's better to buy from Germany at 16% than Italy at 20% or the Netherlands at 19(?)%. (Assuming the same base price of course)

So I called and ordered it. Spoke to Graham again. And confirmed the order by email.
This was Friday 22 November at midday.
Let's see how it goes. I'll keep you posted.

I also asked specifically about the shortage of the camera in Germany, and Graham said he would call Minolta next week (ie this week) and see.
  • Tuesday I get a mail from Graham thanking me for my order and stating that the parcel would leave from there as soon as possible.
This pleased me greatly. But then I tend to be naive. All the repsonses so far, if I read them with a cynical eye, could be standard responses. But they sound pretty genuine on the phone. So I'm still hopeful.
  • So I sent Graham a reply asking if "leave as soon as possible" means they have them in stock and reminding him of his promise to call Minolta.
  • Thursday I get an email from someone called Inna (at ny-camera) saying my package is "on its way to you", and I "should have it very soon"
Woohoo. That can't be a standard response. Can it?
That was yesterday. Just waiting for the mail man. Sorry, mail person.

Keeping you up to date with every boring development in my quest to stop lurking in this forum and buy the damn thing.
Rhubarb.

PS: I researched the warranty issue. There is an EU directive called " 99/44/EC" that was agreed in May 1999, and sets a deadline for implementation of 1 Jan 2002. This directive seems to imply that all products should have a 2 year warranty.

Also I don't get what the situation is in the Netherlands and other states not offering 2 year warranties. Either the Netherlands has not implemented the directive (what happens then?) or Minolta in the Netherlands is not abiding by the law. Any EU law experts out there?

Hello,

Ever considered buying in Switzerland ???

Look at this site:
http://www.prodimex.ch/pinfoart.asp?TYPEGRP=&idxGRP=135&idxART=DIMAGE-7Hi

Hope it helps...

Jean-Marc

I ordered it from http://www.nomatica.com (France) on November, 12th, and still waiting for... I asked them by email, and after two tries, I got this answer: "expected on Dec the first..." Well, if not available next week, I will probably cancel my order. of course, the Dimage 7i is on stock.

Seems that Minolta got the wrong estimates about 7Hi sales.

Actually I can only advise against buying from NY-camera. They are helpfull until you have paid them if you then have a problem they don't care anymore and the support is non existant. I also talked to that same Graham sevral times and send several emails but they just didn't care that the brand new camera I got was defective. I could send it in for repair and wait a couple of months to get it back and even see if it was under warranty (Ii'm talking a brand new camera here). No way to swap it immediately which should be standard when they give you a defective product. They just didn't care because they had my money and that was all they wanted. Service forget it.

Hey Daniel,

I think you will have no other choice. I´ve contacted Minolta Germany and they told me that there will be just one more shipment of Hi´s in the early December, and the next one at end of January. This week some 7Hi arrived Germany from Asia - the were all ment for pre-orders.

Hi SlipStream,

What about Brussels? Is the D7Hi there expensive or out of stock? (It is not clear actually what brand/model you have in mind).
BTW, can you advise some search/price comparison site in Belgium?

Confirmation of that stupid situation from duesseldorf / germany:

Well known store Leistenschneider got just one camera which was preordered. They said that they know about the shortcoming in other shops, too .. so ...

Let´s define "Stupid Sitution":

Hey Minolta - Santa Claus is coming, People get their christmas x-tra money - and you can´t deliver? Guess i´m willing to pay the same for the camera after christmas? HAHA - price is now at 1330 Euro (Germany) - i´ll wait to january and NOT spent more then 1250 for it then ! .. not my fault, i was willing, but when people have to wait their brains start to work ;)

Ha, ha - agree. Just checked with a friend of mine - the same situation in Brussels, Hague, Aachen - the same situation - out of stock. But 7i is available - looks like pushing to sell 7i.
