Hello folk,
I am waiting since october for a 7hi I ordered from a German
e-commerce site but noone seems to be able to tell me when it will
be available, so I just wonder if someone could tell where in the
European Union one is supposed to find a 7hi available with a good
pricing, via web or otherwise.
Thank you FYA

wiren -
Reviving this thread after 2 weeks.
So I sent the guy at ny-camera.de a mail asking him about availability of the 7HI.
The guy I have corresponded with is called Graham - he's also the guy I spoke with on the phone when I first confirmed their price and the fact that they have a 2yr warranty.
Thus far Graham has been helpful and friendly on the phone and fairly responsive to email with about a 2 day reply lag.
True to form, he replied two days later:
- "We don't have the camera in stock, but we expect it in a couple of weeks"
- "We have a few back-ordered, but we expect the next delivery to cover all back-orders."
I confirmed the price: Euro 1369 + 31 shipping to Portugal and COD charge.
Note that the price includes tax. The tax in Germany is 16%. The good thing about this (if you are paying the tax) is that if you are buying inside the EU then you pay the tax in the country you buy from. So it's better to buy from Germany at 16% than Italy at 20% or the Netherlands at 19(?)%. (Assuming the same base price of course)
So I called and ordered it. Spoke to Graham again. And confirmed the order by email.
This was Friday 22 November at midday.
Let's see how it goes. I'll keep you posted.
I also asked specifically about the shortage of the camera in Germany, and Graham said he would call Minolta next week (ie this week) and see.
- Tuesday I get a mail from Graham thanking me for my order and stating that the parcel would leave from there as soon as possible.
This pleased me greatly. But then I tend to be naive. All the repsonses so far, if I read them with a cynical eye, could be standard responses. But they sound pretty genuine on the phone. So I'm still hopeful.
- So I sent Graham a reply asking if "leave as soon as possible" means they have them in stock and reminding him of his promise to call Minolta.
- Thursday I get an email from someone called Inna (at ny-camera) saying my package is "on its way to you", and I "should have it very soon"
Woohoo. That can't be a standard response. Can it?
That was yesterday. Just waiting for the mail man. Sorry, mail person.
Keeping you up to date with every boring development in my quest to stop lurking in this forum and buy the damn thing.
Rhubarb.
PS: I researched the warranty issue. There is an EU directive called " 99/44/EC" that was agreed in May 1999, and sets a deadline for implementation of 1 Jan 2002. This directive seems to imply that all products should have a 2 year warranty.
Also I don't get what the situation is in the Netherlands and other states not offering 2 year warranties. Either the Netherlands has not implemented the directive (what happens then?) or Minolta in the Netherlands is not abiding by the law. Any EU law experts out there?
